So far, most of my time has gone into the audio side. It's a substantial modelling effort: sympathetic resonance, damper and release behaviour, pedal transitions, and key and pedal mechanism noises, all calibrated against real recorded samples, note by note and gesture by gesture. I'm developing PianoToLife alone, as free software, so I have to choose my priorities carefully, and the sound came first. I'm sorry this means it isn't usable for you yet.
What it adds to the playing experience: PianoToLife hosts your sampled piano (VSL, Kontakt pianos, Ivory, etc.) and adds what samples alone can't do. It models the strings resonating with each other while the pedal is down, how the dampers fall back on the strings (including half-pedalling and re-pedalling), the natural release of each note, and the wooden mechanical noises of keys and pedal. The aim is for the piano to respond to the way you play, not just to which notes you play.
