VSL Synchron Bösendorfer Imperial

Jose EB5AGV

Oops, sorry, I mixed eLicensers with iLok. I only have a hardware eLicenser and some software iLok licenses. I was referring to eLicensers being not maintained in the long run

Johnstaf

Jose EB5AGV I wonder how long Steinberg will maintain the dongle as an option. Many studios won't have their computers connected permanently to the Internet, if at all.

Jose EB5AGV

Johnstaf Yes, it could be a problem for Steinberg. I have also a current Cubase Pro license and would hate if I can't use it at least on 4 computers (not simultaneously)

vagfilm

Johnstaf Wait a minute? Is steinberg also moving the elicenser dongle to constant internet connection. Nowadays you just need to connect the computer with the dongle to the internet when installing a license for the first time… And you may even do that in a different computer, and then transfer the dongle to the other computer, I believe.

Jose EB5AGV

vagfilm No, the dongle should be present to start and while the software is running. Its LED pulses if it is alive

Johnstaf

vagfilm It looks as though will have a choice between the dongle or computer-hosted license. Steinberg already do this with some software. When Dorico was new you could move your license once between the dongle and your computer. I don't know if this is still the case or if you can do it several times.

Johnstaf

Johnstaf In VSL's case you will still have your eLicenser dongle -I assume they won't let you use "soft" eLicenser. Old licences won't have to be cancelled in order to get an iLok licence so you can probably use both. That's the impression they gave when they announced the changed.

I know that… I asked because I thought that Johnstaf was saying that the elicenser dongle was also going to require constant internet connection (like the iLok license agreement with VSL will apparently require). But I think I may have misinterpreted what Johnstaf said:

Johnstaf I wonder how long Steinberg will maintain the dongle as an option. Many studios won't have their computers connected permanently to the Internet, if at all.

You were probably saying that studios prefer the dongle because it allows them to have the computer offline, but I read it as if you were saying "steinberg will discontinue the dongle because studios will not like to have their computers always online". Sorry if I misread…

Another older upload using the VSL Bösendorfer Imperial. The settings will be at the end of the song. I love this song (Precious Memories) and the warm, mellow, buttery smooth tone of the Bösendorfer Imperial.

God Bless,
David

Those deep base sounds …

QuasiUnaFantasia Those deep base sounds …

Yep. The Bösendorfer Imperial is long at 9 1/2 feet, and the 9 extra bass keys really causes the low frequencies to rumble. That's something else I love about this piano. Thanks for bringing it up.

God Bless,
David

QuasiUnaFantasia

In my opinion this makes the large Bösendorfers particular suited for music in which there are very deep notes played alone (or concurrently with only a few other notes), and fairly quietly, and held for a long time. There is a uniquely calm assuredness arising in those situations. I bet the first movement of the Moonlight sonata would sound great on the VSL BI.

It seems like YouTube added some weird delay to the first note in the video of the original post (For Such A Time As This). Does anyone else hear it? It's like a delay. I only hear it on the first note.

I wonder if I'll have to upload the video again.

God Bless,
David

vagfilm

I don't detect nothing strange in that first note...

I only notice it with my MacBook Air. My Mac mini and iPhone play it normal. What's wrong with the MacBook Air?

David B

I discovered what the problem is. It's the Safari browser. It seems to hiccup when certain videos start causing a distortion in the sound. I downloaded the Chrome browser and it doesn't have that problem.

Safari 15.1 with Monterey 12.0.1 seems to have an issue. I'll have to wait for the next update to see if this behavior changes.

God Bless,
David

I think (as is becoming usual) after a major macOS update, the things get a bit messed. Apple used to be rock-solid and bug free under Steve Jobs. There were very few customization options in the software but the defaults were perfect and as a result the software could be tested and verified. Nowadays Apple are following the trend in providing a lot of choices to customers which not only makes the software bloated but also has the potential for bugs…

Gamma1734

Thanks David for sharing your settings! Gonna try that out for sure.

Gamma1734 Thanks David for sharing your settings! Gonna try that out for sure.

It's good for songs where there is more single note melody. The ribbon mic adds an openness to the sound. I take the ribbon mic out when I want a tighter sound for more chording rich songs.

God Bless,
David

Beautiful hymn with the Bösendorfer Imperial. Five mics with this preset. Settings will be shown at the end of the video. Song is “Have You Any Room For Jesus.”

God Bless,
David
