i think the best thing about ivory am3 is the fact that it's much older NYD, where the vilabs modern d is a brand new one, it's not like we're stuck with anything
we really have options 🙂

It’s interesting though that there seems to be a sudden fierce competition in the sampled piano library market, especially among the top guns, such as VSL, VI Labs, Synthogy. I hope Garritan will wake up from the hibernation too. Ultimately, it’s good for us customers 👍🏻

i'd say if they want to, they better sample a rare kind of piano
maybe a d282, or even an imperial (we have an infinite amount of Ds and CFXs but not enough 290s and 282s)
in my opinion the stupidest piano that garittan can come up with after all these years is yet another steinway d or a yamaha cfx

pianow If you were familiar with Garritan, you would know how. Garritan liked to sample Steinway in their products. There are Steinway for jazz, for orchestra and for solo.

pipAT Session keys Y and IK Pianoverse have this model. But afraid, may not stand on par with these from top piano vi developers.

Thanks. I've listened to the IK Pianoverse version of the CFIIIS but I wasn't exactly blown away by it. I also have a version of it in my DP but nowadays it doesn't really compare to the newest DP sounds. However my preference for the CFIIIS is on the acoustic side of things. I actually think the CFX is in a way the perfect instrument for a VI even if it's really not my favorite acoustic grand (a most personal reflection). I also like the Fazioli F278 in UVI Keysuite, but sadly it is not deeply sampled. Steinway D is hard to sample, too. There are maybe over a hundred commercial or free ones. Yet we are still searching for the ideal incarnation, and thus developers keep work on making better Steinway vis.

Just come to think of it, Imperfect Samples has an Ebony Grand, Fazioli 308, which is known for its tone, playability not much to say though.

Well, it needn't be bright per se. Indeed not as the Ravenscroft and not as a Yamaha C7 (the older C series).

More well-rounded, intimate yet powerful, wood in the sound, clear and not nasal, great note separation, jusy like the two Bösendorfer 225s I was lucky to have played.

Wow! That's a good amount of useful tips, thank you. It's just too bad that so few of the VI makers offer trial versions...

I just checked, my 4-year-old serial number is upgradable. That's a good thing. But I'm limiting my budget this year, as most of my funds will go towards schooling / related costs. So I'm not purchasing the upgrade anytime soon.
