i'm a Pianoteq fan but i can tell you that MODERN D sound right under finger : incredible

i love this better than all PTQ Steinway and VSL D_274. I love PTQ, i love VSL, but this MODERN D is very good.

I contact VIlabs support that they could fix/solve the SR resonance for PEDAL DOWN / UP transition. I will mix the modern D with PIANOTEQ 8 while i wait the fix.

But incredible out of the box : MODERN D : First VST i was not disapointed

and sure still better with my LOGIC 11 script to sidechained it for RESONANCE TO PTQ8

Pete14 the resonance behavior in Modern D can be fixed, it’s just scripting (whether they will do is another story, hopefully not a sad one). The fake timbre in Pianoteq can’t be fixed at all. Ultimately it’s a choice of preference. Whether behavior is more important than beauty 😃

OlivierW love it out of the box with my N1X set to velocity 1 to have the full range midi information à to 127

I also used it first but found that having the default touch curve 2 on the N1X with a custom touch curve on the Modern D is better.

A first class Steinway only for 199 USD.

Far far better than Ivory 3.

My Favorite VST in order :

1. Modern D -> the Best
2. VSL D-274 with my LOGIC 11 fix with Pianoteq 8 and velocity fix
3. Pianoteq VC 280 (still strange decay / attack but promising)

pianow i think some of the best parts of the modern d is because of you and your opinions on the first versions.

Well, I can't take full credit. There are other beta testers in there, too. And a noise reduction has been done to some of the mics, that's not what I asked them to do.

But one thing I did ask them to do, to increase polyphony in the full and max settings, and I got my wish before release.

Irmin @David Lai hope you are getting commission. I wonder how many of us bought it because of your recommendation.

I'll ask about that, thank you. Honestly I'm just doing this for fun, but I guess, now that I think of it, there may be people who got interested because of my performances. So you may be right.

OlivierW Nice performance! Where did you get the orchestra track?

Irmin Any strategies or suggestions on how to setup the velocity curve. It either feels too muted or too bright in the mid velocity ranges, can't get it feeling right. I've tried using the midi response and also playing around with the curve on my keyboard. Not sure I understand exactly what the gain response curve is doing.

That's one part that I don't know very much about, as the drawing of the curve was the only thing I can't do on my own. Sorry! I hope you can receive help from the forum here. Maybe start with the sync curve button and tune a general response, and then uncheck the syncing and adjust to taste?

Well, as we wait for Olivier's performance with orchestra, let me try my hands at the beginning of this sad but beautiful movement.

pianow one of the things that really stood up to me (at first) was the interface,

another great thing about the interface is that everything is in the main page, you must have something very specific in mind to reach other pages, like tuning, or something like adjusting the velocity curve (a once in a lifetime adjustment)

everything else is right there in the main page, i love this design, it's truly user friendly

I agree the interface is really well done, and extremely intuitive to use. I actually design interfaces for a living so I always appreciate this aspect.

In my opinion this - along with VSL Synchron series - have the best designed interfaces of any piano VI. Ivory 3 is also quite nice, but I'm not as wild about the overall aesthetic (admittedly subjective) while the main controls are split across several screens which makes it a bit more cumbersome to navigate. On the Modern D (and Modern U) almost all of the important parameters are on a single interface which makes it very user friendly.

The only thing I wish is that the main window could be scaled up to be larger, as it really looks quite small on a large screen. However this is probably a limitation of the UVI platform itself and not something they can control.

You can do it. Click on the three lines, then preferences, then scaling (off the top of my head).

OMG, you people have gone mad!

You do know what it means to start hearing things in your head that aren’t really there? 😁

I understand that after all these years of waitin’ for the holy grail, yet not getting it, desperation can indeed lead to hallucinations, but I ask that we take two steps back, reassess, and then slowly approach the Modern D, so as to not get hypnotized by its charm.

If the Modern D proves itself worthy (over time), then, and only then, should we consider coronation, but if we rush to conclusions simply based on some awesome performances, and hastily coronate the Modern D, we risk yet another blow to the heart (and wallet).

Stand back & stand by, I say!

I suppose it’s up to us (Logicians) to make sure that this ‘wave of enthusiasm’ is kept under control before it turns into a tsunami that kills us all…..
