CyberGene great ! and thanks
yes, i've a N1X. and i love it 🙂
vagfilm Yes… I remember now that I also ran into that problem months ago when installing Modern U in my M1 mac. But I don't really remember how I solved it. The puzzling thing is that many people seem to not have any problem, and VILabs does not address this in their installation notes… Maybe people with older installations of previous VSTs versions don't suffer from this.
I ran into the exact same problem, and it took me almost an hour to figure it out. Basically, before downloading you need to make sure the folder you try to download it to has permissions set to "read and write" for all users. To do this you need to right click on the folder, select "get info," then go to the "Sharing & Permissions" tab at the bottom of the menu and make sure everyone has privileges set to "read and write."
It seems that newer Macs have this setting set to "read only" be default so anyone trying to download on a Mac will run into this problem.
They really should mention this in the download instructions because I have a feeling they are going to get tons of complaints from Mac users claiming that they can't download the files.
jdg78 for MODERN D, just have to go tho security menu in mac M2/sequoia settings (open anyway)
OlivierW for MODERN D, just have to go tho security menu in mac M2/sequoia settings (open anyway
Yes, you also have to do that in order to open the initial installation software.
But I also found I had to format the specific download location or else it would give me an error message saying that the folder I was trying to download to does not have writing capabilities.
For whatever reason, VI Labs is not a “trusted developer” so Macs will automatically treat anything from them as suspicious unless you override it.
I guess there's no change in policy regarding demo licenses?
johanibraaten I guess there's no change in policy regarding demo licenses?
Splendid point!
Please take note, @VILabs !
Cheers and happy friendly policies,

Just try it :
love it
near perfect but wrong SR simulation between pedal down and up :
in a real piano ;
in pedal down : play silently CHORD C and play others C/E/G staccato
release pedal Down to up while still holding down your c chord :
in a real piano and Pianoteq you still the SR resonance of undamped C CHORD, but in this MODERN D, resonance between keys doesn't work if the pedal down was down before change it to up with undamped keys . (only up)
So i will use MODERN D (the best sampled STENWAY D ) with Pianoteq 8 Resonances to have the right SR resonance behaviour between PEDAL down and up transition.
The MODERN D is very good : i love it. Demos soon
love it out of the box with my N1X set to velocity 1 to have the full range midi information à to 127
Buy This Steinway : well tuned and sound like a Steinway : real
Better than Ivory 3
Regards,
Olivier F.

And here, Pete doesn’t know what he’s talking about…..
Yes, I showed myself out (of your party) yesterday, but I’m assuming the party’s over by now?
So, now that most of you spent $200 on yesterday’s binge, I wonder if it’s time to get a little bit objective, and tone down the hyperbole, “it’s the best thing since sliced bread,” because just the day before yesterday, according to Pianow & friends, there was nothing better under the sun than VSL, yet along comes Modern D……….
Yes, David’s renditions sound great, so kudos to him, but I wonder, is it possible that the Modern D might not necessarily be the holy grail? (just asking, so please don’t let your unchecked emotions get the best of you).
Pete14 believe me it's very playable
i'm a Pianoteq fan but i can tell you that MODERN D sound right under finger : incredible
i love this better than all PTQ Steinway and VSL D_274. I love PTQ, i love VSL, but this MODERN D is very good.
I contact VIlabs support that they could fix/solve the SR resonance for PEDAL DOWN / UP transition. I will mix the modern D with PIANOTEQ 8 while i wait the fix.
But incredible out of the box : MODERN D : First VST i was not disapointed
and sure still better with my LOGIC 11 script to sidechained it for RESONANCE TO PTQ8
but incredible
Pete14 the resonance behavior in Modern D can be fixed, it’s just scripting (whether they will do is another story, hopefully not a sad one). The fake timbre in Pianoteq can’t be fixed at all. Ultimately it’s a choice of preference. Whether behavior is more important than beauty 😃
OlivierW love it out of the box with my N1X set to velocity 1 to have the full range midi information à to 127
I also used it first but found that having the default touch curve 2 on the N1X with a custom touch curve on the Modern D is better.
CyberGene but anyway , this is incredible playable out of the box
i fall in love
Demos soon. I will record again my MOZART/BOHM concerto 23 (real orchestra with Piano deleted with stems process)
CyberGene and this Piano is incredible well tuned , very well tuned.
A first class Steinway only for 199 USD.
Far far better than Ivory 3.
My Favorite VST in order :
but this is incredible , incredible. VILabs Modern D, the best
This Steinway have a soul
pianow i think some of the best parts of the modern d is because of you and your opinions on the first versions.
Well, I can't take full credit. There are other beta testers in there, too. And a noise reduction has been done to some of the mics, that's not what I asked them to do.
But one thing I did ask them to do, to increase polyphony in the full and max settings, and I got my wish before release.
Irmin @David Lai hope you are getting commission. I wonder how many of us bought it because of your recommendation.
I'll ask about that, thank you. Honestly I'm just doing this for fun, but I guess, now that I think of it, there may be people who got interested because of my performances. So you may be right.
OlivierW Nice performance! Where did you get the orchestra track?
I can play the first piano solo for you so you can hear it.
Irmin Any strategies or suggestions on how to setup the velocity curve. It either feels too muted or too bright in the mid velocity ranges, can't get it feeling right. I've tried using the midi response and also playing around with the curve on my keyboard. Not sure I understand exactly what the gain response curve is doing.
That's one part that I don't know very much about, as the drawing of the curve was the only thing I can't do on my own. Sorry! I hope you can receive help from the forum here. Maybe start with the sync curve button and tune a general response, and then uncheck the syncing and adjust to taste?
David Lai I will record this Concerto 23 again with MODERN D this night.
The orchestra track is a real track with the Piano deleted with STEMS AI
I love this Steinway : the best 🙂 incredible playable
And for Mozart 🙂 magical

Wow, that's really cool!!! I'd love to know more about this program. This may be useful for me.
Glad you're enjoying Modern D as well. It's great from Mozart to modern. 🙂
