Talk about the Woke

Since I also brought the "woke" reference in that thread regarding the bans on PW, I will clarify that it is my belief that the Woke culture is the underlying cause for people being more and more sensitive about anything, going beyond what is sane (IMO) and focusing only on other people's negatives. Or, in other words, I believe the bans are caused by over-reporting which is (kind of) caused by the Woke. Or, in other other words, it's the reporters that are woke, not the mods. The mods are just acting because they see that people are "insulted" and they don't have enough time to read the fine details.

And BTW, my idea for creating this forum is not to be a place for non-woke people, but to be a place where people can discuss even such heated topics and exchange opinions, of course without insults and rudeness. I have friends who are woke and yeah, we've had our highs and lows in our communication and shakings in our friendship but ultimately we learned to understand each other.

BTW, to a certain degree I was woke long before it was "cool". I became a vegetarian for ethical reasons 20 years ago but never tried to preach it or make people feel bad. And years later vegans appeared and started pointing fingers and accusing you of things. Heck, they even think we vegetarians are worse than meat eaters, because we "pretend to love animals but in fact we still make them suffer” (e.g. cows, hens) 😀 That was so silly it made me hate vegans… That in itself is an embodiment of the entire woke culture as a whole, not just vegans. IMO people should realize that the stupidest thing to do when you want to change someone is to point fingers at him and act offended.

Exactly, it's all about balance. I can give you an example with online newspapers, you can judge them by how the mods delete the posts. I see zero balance in 99% of the cases. Most of them don't even allow comments, and the few of them allowing the comments end up deleting posts without reason. I need to be updated, but now I really want to stop reading online newspapers.

In my view this (vegans versus vegetarians) actually points towards the self-destruction of the "Woke" movement; in time they will destroy their own unity by accusing one another of non-compliance with whatever special rule they themselves adhere to. As has been observed for a long time, the revolution eats its own. 😄

And is this not also a usual trait in persons that like to call themselves non-woke? What is pianoclack other than a legitimate act of people that feel they (or others) were offended by the mods? Is this forum not a manifestation of thin-skin? I truly think it can be understood as that, and I don't really care if someone calls me thin-skin for having jumped ship…

The problem with sociological labeling is that it conveniently creates a group identity that muddies the waters and creates trenches in a civilized discussion. There are tolerant and intollerant people in both sides of the aisle. Over simplification only serves to create division…

We would have been woke if we tried to confront them. We didn't, instead we created an alternative forum, in a peaceful way.

But yes, I do agree that there are intolerant people on both fronts, woke and non-woke. We're all people.

Yet, there has never been such a drastic social and political polarization as nowadays. I blame the woke, but of course I may be wrong 🙂 We can discuss that here. Not on PW though 😀

Before "woke" there was "politically correct", and there have probably always (and at least for a long time) been groups of people who wanted to make others feel guilty about this, that, or the other. Formal religions have been doing this for a seriously long time. Come to think about it, maybe this is how religions get twisted away from pure faith, and into a political organisation.

Well, I found a common trait… Everyone blames a "group" other than themselves. Non-woke blame the woken, woken blame the non-woke, non-religion persons blame religion (well, at least this one is many centuries old), autocrats blame democrats, and casio-lovers blame the steinway-huggers… I simply like to blame myself for what I can control and leave the others alone…

The only alternative to blaming others is to blame oneself (if blame is at all to be cast).

Anyway, blaming Steinway is always ok. 😆

That has been universal method of collecting offerings since the times of the Pharaohs: First make people feel guilty about something they aren't at fault for, then cash in. Even YouTube creators like to make their audience feel guilty about watching their content, so that some nice Patreon money starts flowing. But they didn't invent the guilt economy, that goes back thousands of years. 🤣

There was a time when a "group" of people knew one another and spent time together.

Today a "group" is just a bunch of people who feel comfortable with the title associated with the group.

But underneath the title everyone has his own opinion of what the group stands for. That definition is often ill-defined and vague ... and therefore meaningless. That's why there's been some fuss here over what exactly is "woke".

We have "woke" folk, "Karens" ... can you think of more? Umbrella terms that mean different things to different people.

I think that cliche-laden terminology serves as a poor substitute for thoughtful prose. Is literate society becoming illiterate? 🙁

Anyway ... it wasn't this way long ago. But mass media makes it possible. And especially the two-way mass medium: the interweb.

Today everyone has a mouth with global reach. But "think before you speak" get tossed aside much too often.

Perhaps you or others can explain a little to me since there are aspects to people today latching onto mainstream-media-manufactured lingo that further undermines the compromised counter culture ......“woke”. For starters, it comes off as poor grammar which i realize is popular especially with youngsters ( anyone under the age of 40 👴) , but there long has been a fine, suitable word - awake- that raises the question - what does woke bring to the table for those already awake .... or is this new catchphrase du jour mainly intended to signal belated rousing from slumbers?

This seems to be the event of the year at PW. Well, a scandal always sells well.... QuasiUnaFantasia, you're going to be famous😉 A real drama, with a lost hero, a hero who sets off on new adventures and a little hero (me) who is glad that the test of the troops didn't pull the wool over his eyes.

Drew-r I think those who self-annoint as "woke" are just using the word's implication of "formerly asleep" to serve the three fold purpose of:

1. proclaiming one's self to have arisen to a higher level of functioning that all others (those not yet awakened) have yet to attain, thereby massaging the speakers ego;

2. disguising the speaker's ego masturbation as merely a natural occurring event (waking up) as opposed to the narcissistic, contrived, theatrical self worship that it actually is;

3. stripping those so condemned as lesser beings (the unwoke) of any right to be angry over the woker's (should that be "wanker's) condescension by implicitly denying responsibility for the insult made in number 1 above, and by simultaneously showering the unwoke with feigned hope and optimism that one day the unwoke shall be blessed to also experience the supposedly completely fortuitous event of waking.

It is the ultimate expression of the unleashed narcissism of our age. It is the embryonic stage of the end of civilization. Every person is a genius and god unto himself. No others are recognized. No others are needed. Hence, civilization is unneeded.

There's lots of things that are hard to understand … like why are so many restaurants here running reduced seating and reduced hours for lack of staff, yet they cannot fill job openings despite offering $15 to $20 (where normal pay rates would be much less).

MacMacMac I think you know the answer to that. In many states unemployment insurance plus federal and state Covid relief pays better than working.
