Yet another epic Yamaha vs Roland battle

Granted, the battle of “Normandy” weakened me some, but thanks to an unflinching innermost sense for “setting things straight” for the betterment of humanity, I still have a few battles left in me!

And I ask, did George Washington not lose a battle here or there, yet in the end did he not also win the war?

Note: I have some battles left in me, but I did not want ‘yet another battle’ to be fought here, for this here thread is populated by innocent civilians, who could get caught in the crossfire (collateral damage), so I simply ask that we take the battle(s) elsewhere!

The Yamaha is not only way more elegant, but also a more-recent model.

Roland’s is not only ugly, basic, and ordinary, but also a super-old model.

Actually Pete14 I have played several Roland and Yamaha Digital Pianos at some "House of Worships" in the past.

At the moment I have an old Technic DP and a Casio PX5S at the moment. I will say I really enjoyed playing the Roland HP704. The Yamaha Digital Piano I think was a CLP645 which was also nice. There is something about the Roland though that just felt right to me. I do agree that it is priced to high. I was planning on buying a new DP last year but became ill and right now have medical bills. Hope to be able to make a purchase next year. So I like to hear what others think about the new digital pianos.

NU1XA $7,900 (and this is a state-of-the-art machine, with hyper-sensors & acoustic action).

LX-708 $7,200 (and this is a “discounted” piece of old-tech housed in a cardboard like, fake cabinet).

Need I say more? actually, I do!

P-515 $1,600 (and this is a marvel of tech).

FP-90X $2,000 (and it was actually selling for $2,200 until recently).

Of importance: whilst the P-525 didn’t check all the boxes for me (perhaps my expectations were unrealistic) it did for other people. Yes, Yamaha reused the same cabinet, but Roland just released a bunch of new models using the same action and same-old PureAcoustic-BS, and decided to simply call it “PianoReality” (code for “tech-rehashing”).
Which is worse, Yamaha reusing an old cabinet, or Roland rehashing old tech by simply renaming it? I’d say the latter!

So cocky, Roland!

Now, I will admit that it’s not fair to compare a groundbreaking instrument to the faux-simile called the LX-708.
And no, I’m not biased, but please, let’s call things for what they are: NU1XA is an instrument; LX-708 wants to be one, yet despite huge subwoofers, it just doesn’t rise to the occasion!

Save your hard-earned money for a real instrument (NU1XA); however, if all you can afford is a close simile, I’d highly recommend the P-515 for a meager $1,400, and yes, if you don’t mind the old cabinet, and prefer a “lighter” action, a P-525 for $1,600.

Correction: I previously listed the P-515 for $1,600, but the price has now dropped to $1,400; what a bargain!

I have now included the gargantuan price of the NU1XA, but digital instruments at such elevated prices do not interest me. However, interestingly, the LX-708 seems to be something like 12% cheaper than it used to be. I take that as an indication of an incoming replacement.

The comparison in pricing seems “drastically” different (in your neck of the woods); the NU1XA being twice as high, but truth is that the LX-708 “was” selling for as much as an NU1X, and the reason(s) for the massive drop is as follows:

1: as you mentioned, “new” models (with rehashed tech) are coming.

2: Roland has thousands of unsold/returned LX-708s stored in warehouses, and they either sell at a massive discount, or end up having to donate all these toys to poor kids from ‘round the world🧸 but I assure you, the so-called “new” model will cost as much as the NU1XA or perhaps even more…….the horror, the horror!

Admit it, Quasi, Rolands are overpriced!

The Casio GP-500 can sweep the floor with the LX-Thing, yet the price (before the LX went into the discount bin) is so much more in line with reality…..admit it, Quasi, admit it now!

Possibly. I have no experience with the current generation of LX's, but the GP-500 was excellent, in my opinion. Better than all top-of-the-line digitals (non-hybrids) from the other brands.

All of this makes me wish I still had my old Kawai US-50 upright. 😉

If you go north some thousand miles, and then turn east for even more thousand miles, then there you are. Remember to bring waterproof clothing (umbrella's are useless around here). ⛈️

I can not imagine anyone ever buying an NU1X for anything remotely similar to the $7,900 you quote for its successor.
