Roland is not on my list of piano makers. They won't sell repair parts to piano owners. That's a deal breaker.

Meanwhile Kawai has been plagued with quality problems. They're my second no-go.

That leaves Yamaha. And that means I'm in the Pete14 camp! Oh, the humanity! 😀

Don't forget about Studiologic. The Numa X Piano GT should be considered with the big guns. I'm almost certain the Numa is going to replace my FP90X. I'll make sure to articulate why that is when I do make the final decision.

Surely, I must be missing something here!

At least Roland throws a couple o’ speakers with the FP-90X.

BTW, I noticed the Numa people claiming they use sampling + ‘real modeling,’ and I wonder, are they implying that Roland’s modeling isn’t real?

I just might end up keeping my P-515 till it dies on me, but that will be easier said than done; because my G.A.S. is getting the best of me; so bad my gas, that I even pondered about an as of yet unreleased FP-100X……..and for that you can blame Stu and his excitement over the new-yet-old “PianoReality”!

The reality, Mac, is that Yamaha has left me scrambling for answers with the new P-525 that, whilst having a better sound-engine, still manages to fail at delivering a decent sound (speakers?) slippery black keys, and all sorts of contradictions that appear innocuous, yet in reality are lethal…

What's crazy is that the Numa x GT goes for almost $600 less in Europe. I actually got a really good deal for one here in the U.S. I got $400 off. I paid $1,700 plus I got a free Numa magnetic music rest ($89 value). Even with that killer deal I'm still paying more than they pay in Europe.

However, you actually are missing something. This is a stage piano. Yes, it doesn't have speakers, but it has multi-layering, effects, onboard 4 channel mixer, and it's built like a tank. Not like the flimsy plastic on your P515. The Numa X GT is all metal with wood cheek blocks.

It's definitely overpriced here in the U.S., (IMO) but it is a very capable piece of equipment with possibly one of the better actions on the market. Don't be throwing shade on the Numa. 😀

Well, it's less than 700 mi by road from the Fatar factory to Thomann. I'd guess they're able to negotiate good deals for the freight, and they deal in the same currency, without any import duties.

Just out of interest I had a look at Clavia Nord Piano 5 88 prices. USD prices are from Google so probably a bit on the low side compared to what you'd actually have to pay:

29 290 SEK @ Musikbörsen in Stockholm, including Swedish 25% VAT. ~2800 USD
2890 EUR @ St Paul's Sound in Finland (incl. Finnish 24% VAT). ~3200 USD
2999 EUR @ Thomann's German site (incl. German 19% VAT). ~3300 USD
3499 USD @ Sweetwater - I don't understand how US sales tax works when buying online so no comment on that.

So looks like with other brands as well, the price tends to increase when you have to do current conversions, pay import duties, and go further from the factory.

I mean, they love themselves so much, that they can’t even wait for someone to take a picture of them/they/it, so they simply photograph themselves doing the most mundane of things; heck, even taking a crap is a moment to memorialize forever!

Perhaps I’m getting old, but back in my day, “pictures” were reserved for important events that one could look back on and go “aww, wasn’t that special.”

But I digress, and yes, the “cocoon-pillow” looks interesting; I might buy one just to ride the elevator up/down in my “cocoon” without being interrupted by a millennial taking a selfie!

It’s you millennials who have no r.e.s.p.e.c.t for the people who literally built this country; yes, that would be us “old farts!”

Sure, it’s now easy going over that there bridge connecting two worlds otherwise disconnected, but have you ever considered the people who made that possible for you millennial-type to get over troubled waters without getting wet, and/or, god forbid, drowning…

Many a’ friends I lost building them skyscrapers you millennials now inhabit, but did I ever see a tribute paid to Joe for dropping 100 floors down to his death so that some lazy influencer could now live on that very 100th floor? NO!
