Exactly. And reddit and other forum are full of thread of how bad fake in esr shure sounds and how to spot fake ones.

Definitely for the price Ibwould prefer original phone of lower end model, which are still already very good headphones.

I personally have AKG K142HD and while they are dark phone, and they need good dac and amp to show their potential, I don't have a need for any kind of better cans, as mine are good enough.

I'm not going to buy the originals though. I just know through my own ears that this was/is 150 aussie bucks well spent. Actually, I spent 300 aussie bucks all-up, as another set of these is arriving very soon. The first set was just ordered out of interest - to see if they sounded ok, or even worked at all heheh. The outcome is excellent.

SouthPark How is the soundstage and instrument separation?

carlos I have only used it for digital piano sounds.

At the moment, what I hear is - sitting in a large room or hall with some piano sound - eg. a grand piano sound in the room, which is very nice. I just did a short portion of this here about 10 minutes ago for testing. I think everyone will know this one comes from hehe

Basically using the digi piano like a guitar here hehehe

This is obviously and naturally going to sound different on each of our different head-phones. But does sound quite nice and airy on the 'SRH1840'.

Tested the pirates airy mod on #2 phones --- also sounds nice and airy on this new set. No issue at all with these 'SRH1840'.

Exlyse These are fairly light-weight unbulky units ….. not huge heavy cup ones … so I can only assume or predict that the audio energy will disappear very quickly when the source audio power drops abruptly. Both units sound the same which is nice.

i've tried the new original unit from some audiophile meetup , and i can confirm the sound in my unit is atleast 90% similar.

its really a bargain for this price , compared to my etymotic er2se which is for studio usage, the main difference is the shure has more clarity and you really can feel the immersive soundstage feels like outside your head.

Exlyse Excellent choice! I bought the first one just out of sheer curiosity and wasn't even sure if they were going to work at all. Then was pleasantly surprised with the piano audio coming out.

I found the supposed "Shure 1840 " on another Chinese e-commerce website selling for 60 USD

Would you reckon it's worth to give it a shot considering i heard another Reddit post saying it's just " open back beats headphone "

My HE400SE died after 2 years so I thought it's a good chance to try something els this time ( tho I really do hope this thing have more detail retrieval than my old hifiman )

the seller even sells ultra cheap k712 pro / k702, I doubt you can find it even in aliexpress if you are interested. tho I seen people just blindly claim it's fake on other listing even tho the driver is what appears to be the same yellow semi transparent diaphragm that you would find on real k712 pro

I would give it a shot aswell had it doesn't cost a lot of money in my local currency, they are a bit cheaper than the shure costing around 45-50 ish USD

NotBnW True. Regardless of whether they're not 100% the same -- the main thing is that they sound good to our own ears when using them. If the ali ones had been 60 US bucks, then that would have been a much better deal for me. I paid roughly 100 US bucks for my 'clones'.

Also … just in case. Some clarification … I'm on the side of knowing it's under-handed to produce and sell copies of some company's items and even copy the logo.

I bought the first set to check things out for interest. And the second set for comparing with the first, and backup. The verdict is, even though copying is underhanded, and just 'wrong', the sound from these is very good.

I'm not getting any more clones. These two wired ones will probably last forever, as long as they still have replacement ear muff/pads. And we know that ear muff/pads can self destruct with time, even if kept in a bag.
