The recent bans on PianoWorld

@arc: There is a possible reason for controlling the content. My wife moderated a board and wrote news for it (before she joined me in blissful RETIREMENT). The board owner was threatened with a loss of google ad revenue because of offensive photos posted on the board. So they had to clean things up.

I think copyright infringement might be another reason for lost advertising (but that was not happening on that board).

So some kinds of postings might cost PW some google ads … if any of those ads we see were placed by google. But, two things:

• I don't know whether google places ads on PW.
• In any case, I don't see how off-topic posts would cause any problem. The off-topic posts that stimulated this hubbub were not offensive, nor rude, nor threatening, nor infringing, nor perverse, nor obscene (if there is any such thing anymore). So I'm not understanding the mods' position on this.

arc Maybe the PW owners want not only to monetize PW but also to transform it into something like the stackexchange forums where there is a distinction between posts which are strictly enforced to be on topic, and informal discussions. But I guess that if PW moves in that direction the forum would die in months.

The minimum requirement for anything skilled professionals would use beyond casual chitchat is threads with tree-style followups, so users can actually follow along branches, they find interesting. Reddit does it, Stackexchange does it.

absolutely true, I read a newspaper because of the articles. But if they allow comments then they need to know how to moderate. This is one of the inevitable line:

Me: " So mods, why did you remove my comment this time, I didn't say anything rude."

The mods "Comments? It's not our priority. We don't care about your comments."

Me: "I know that you don't care, but we do."

One of the reasons i came back to PW this past Spring, after the hiatus i took subsequent to becoming a member in late 15’/early 16’, was to find out if the answer had yet arrived.

My mother ( a great mother) was from the era of full time mother/housewife & Nurse who, by circumstance, became a daytime soaps junkie. When i left home in 77’ and began the habit of visiting home & family every so often, i found that a day or two in front of the tube with mother would quickly catch me up on these mellow dramas, as though i had never left them despite being away from them from a few months to a few years at a time. Likewise goes MacMacMac’s next piano ‘Days of Our Lives .... As the World Turns ....Edge of Night’ ... still not resolved but i wanna know how it turns out if/when it happens 😉

I do not honestly understand why the shortages continue in the US. Early this year there were backlogs everywhere. But the N1X and NV10 are being delivered for quite a while around Europe.
