David Lai MacMacMac "I just wish Pianoteq would sell ONE piano that sounded like a piano." Yeah, and none of them do, so I won't hold my breath.
pianow MacMacMac I just wish Pianoteq would sell ONE piano that sounded like a piano personally i don't believe it doesn't, i think it sounds so so clear and it's supernaturally pristine, and that's what makes it a bit (or a lot to some people) synthetic, it doesn't have a real instrument randomness, the movement of the overtones aren't there, i think by fixing these little things pianoteq can get way better but that's just me
pipAT I find myself easily bored by sticking to one library. Like I don't wear the same cloth or eat the same dish every day. I want cakes, fruit, candies, ice cream, chocolate, sandwiches, cookie, champagne, etc sometimes.
David Lai pipAT Interesting. I'm rather fine with playing one library, so long as the library is good enough. This is the case with Modern D.
HZPiano David Lai I'm rather fine with playing one library Same here! So far, that still is Modern U. Cheers! HZ
FREIRE This week I tried the garritan CFX library. Hard to undersant how people like this library. Distorted sound, not very playable at all. I tried the full library. Even pianoteq sounds better IMHO. FOR CFX , with all its shortcomings, its VSL for me.
MacMacMac FREIRE This week I tried the garritan CFX library. Hard to undersand how people like this library. I didn't like it either. I'm not fond of the Yamaha sound.
QuasiUnaFantasia I've used the Garritan CFX lite library in the past; I never noticed any distortions, and I thought it perfectly playable. But the sound is a bit to bright for my taste.
CyberGene FREIRE to avoid any confusion and unnecessary waste of time, it comes with three different perspectives: classic, modern and player (citing from memory). I delete the latter two straight away, they are crap. I only use the classic one with the default preset. I only reverse the stereo perspective to “player”, reduce pedal noises to just above minimum and enable half-pedaling. If that’s still not playable and good to your ears, then maybe it’s not your library 🙂
dikrek Check some Modern D vs Pianoteq samples here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/jof7u5y0nwya46zyfkru9/APs9FvauIp3fwr5nzR04Bkg?dl=0&rlkey=06ybhd60bzm5cw3co0kfuyk9h&st=d07r12bl It’s from a MIDI file, not the standard way of playing this piece, the extreme dynamics may help with the comparison. I did this in 2 different DAWs but the processing chain is similar, this isn’t the raw sound of any of these libraries. I found listening to the comparison from minute 6 to 6:30 useful.
