Modern D vs Pianoteq vs The People

As a Sunday clacker (note1) here are my impressions: Modern D may be very good, perhaps even "the ultimate" VST, but it's not for me because it does not have a demo and because I'm fed up with both Mac and Windows computers and I would accept only a Linux version or a tablet (don't say they don't have enough storage or CPU, since some of them have more storage or CPU than my desktop). And by the way, I wonder how this compares with @dore_m Experience pianos rather than the others you mentioned. @David Lai you might tell them this feedback (Linux/Tablet and giving demo) if you care. WRT the demo, some people would say "you can't download 18GB for a demo", so let me pre-emtively respond: a) my download speed allows that pretty easily, and I'm on the cheaper/slower tier of my internet provider, and the vendor could put it on a peer-to-peer network if they can't afford the extra load on their servers b) I would be happy to entertain a demo with say only half the keys working for 9GB, even more "crippled" than the pianoteq demo. Some people love, some people hate Pianoteq. A few (or maybe a lot, but they "look like" they are a few simply because they are just not vocal?) like it for what it is or at least can live with it. I am in the latter category. I agree with what most (or are they just the most vocal?) people on this forum say, i.e. that the sound is unsatisfactory. But then everything else that I could try with a demo or soundcloud recordings (excluding Modern D which I did not have time to listen to) has an unsatisfactory sound too. Each one sound is unsatisfactory in a different way, so I picked the one that I could live with, and which I like for other characteristics (I like its user interface a lot, again, not perfect but much better than others that I tried, it runs on Linux, both Intel and ARM) and policies (I love that they have a demo, which I used to make my mind before deciding to buy it). If you can't live (and let live) with the previous bullet, I'm very sorry for you and I'm not going to engage in a live and let die thread Speaking of which, I'm really appalled to see hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of messages on the Modern D and Pianoteq so devoid of useful content (heck, even devoid of useful opinions!). Well, I'm sure there is some useful content in there, but it's so buried in repeated and repeated and repeated attacks to each other's point of view that makes me really wonder if you guys have a life. I mean we somewhat drove off the site KFB and SP because they flooded the forum with lots of repetitive comments and then we do it ourselves? What a shame! I think this is just a self-feeding trolling, from which we have no way out until "the world will explode" as somewhat I said already so I won't repeat myself (note2) (note1): in Italian, a very common derogatory way of addressing people that do something at a very low level only when they have time, the dictionary says it's the same in English, but I've never heard it in 20 years - so note that I am purposefully insulting myself (note2): that conversation was about an off-topic politics discussion and this is on-topic, but I see the same attitude and it sadden me in the same way, and mutatis mutande I feel about these new threads exactly I expressed at the time, e.g. at the link below. https://pianoclack.com/forum/d/1021-thats-called-whoopin-your-ass/36

Please don't put words in my mouth, Pete. I didn't regard you dumb. I only mentioned that your points can be rather stretchy, regarding a bunch of IMHO's and how we, according to you, should talk. Don't you realize by now that when one posts something publically on a forum, it's his or her comment / opinion? So THERE IS NO NEED for an IMHO, because it's a given.

And yes, I did understand the train analogy. You started something, then we follow along, and then you continue to develop your points, inforcing us to believe in what you're thinking.

That sounds to me a lot like feeding the troll.

Now, since I've shared my music here, why not sometime you also share something you've been working on? That way, at least I can regard you more as a musician. Right now I believe you are just a person who want to argue with me, and post things that are rather provocative and controversial.

The fact you equate my hearing to ego really made me angry. That was not my point, and you accuse me of arrogance. So I had to tell you what I'm able to do to let you know that I do have some sort of hearing, good or otherwise, and I can hear a difference between a piano and a synth.

I don't post way more often than you do. I do also have a life. I only listen to forums when I have some time to spare. So no, I don't play while I post, or post while I play, or do anything of this sort.

Surely, you’re not saying that CG is a troll, because if you scroll further up you will see that CG is doing some heavy bashing (not just about modeling, but also about Jazz musicians 😁), and yes, he’s also aboard the IMHO train.

Thank god, this isn’t PW, where all you need is a few loud voices, “he’s a troll,” for the banning hammer to come down.

Are you now denying you said that what I say is ‘strange & dumb,’ and that you wouldn’t speak to Mac (an intellectual) the way you speak to (dumb) Pete. I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it, go ahead, everybody, take a look.

No, but why should I ask them? It's just that your posts are more controversial, extraordinary (or out-of-ordinary) and, to certain extent, fantastic and stretched that I don't know if you're speaking from a musician's point of view. How come we can all hear the sound of PianoTeq, describe it as synth-like, but you go around every sample library thread and say that PTQ is the best? I'm very much puzzled.

Pete14 I’ll give you a good one here: Rubalcaba (a master musician) doesn’t have perfect pitch; he can’t tell a C from a D (from ear) if his life depended on it, yet this idiot down here does (have perfect pitch), and he can’t play a tritone substitution if his life depended on it!

I'm sure they were talking about the ability to tell different characteristics apart (like this is bright, this one's dull, that one is a bit midrange focused and the pinoteq is synthetic), so...why the hell you brought "perfect pitch" (a truly rare ability) to the discussion remains a great mystery, but i tell you this : perfect pitch isn't a "musicians_only" ability (and by musicians i mean instrument players.)
a mix engineer can also have perfect pitch, yea they can't play instruments but having that ability helps them mix several instruments a lot better...
another example, singers.

on the other hand there are thousands of musicians who don't have this ability but they're the best of the best out there,

the thing is both of these groups of people have good ears (at least most of them)
and I'm sure David lai is one of them too, how do i know? because i also have great ears.

Not even a month ago you said something to the extent that I was “a likable troll,” but it seems like in just a month I went from “likable troll,” to “unredeemable troll,” but you know what, Mac? I can see right through your facade, because the truth is that you got offended at my poking fun at MAGA, and ever since you went on the attack; that’s the truth.

I’m a biotch? yet you’re the one posting huge sign-posts back-to-back, “don’t feed the troll,” without even reading through the thread for some context; something I ask other members to do before they condemn me.

Take this thread, for example, everything was going fine; we were all half-joking, tongue-in-cheek, and doing our usual bashing of each other’s preferences whilst still making salient points (yes, it’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time), then, very suddenly, David decides to insult me (I already stated what he said, so please scroll up to read his post). I responded in a less-insulting way (much less insulting), and then it went from there, and he accused me of ‘putting words in his mouth,’ so thank god we only have half an hour to edit our posts; because I wouldn’t doubt he would’ve edited his post (once again, for anyone in the dark, look at the post that started it all, and also how much fun we were having before that)….
