CyberGene And it sounds like usual PT crap
even if it's better then their other models, so what? there's a saying : even a broken clock works properly twice a day.

one of the reasons why aliens won't attack us is the pianoteq
they probably tried it (as our latest technology) and said : the people of earth are still living in the jurassic era, we should not disturb them.
I keep hoping Pianoteq will improve significantly generation over generation. As it is, in the instances Modartt lets you compare directly across different generations using the same render, it always sounds differently off to me between the two, but not necessarily better in the newer generation.
I've also never felt the delta between Pianoteq's playability and that of the better sampled libraries has ever been as large as some folks make out. Maybe I'm just easily pleased or easily adaptable.
I don't hate it for what it is. If anything, I kind of just feel like I'm on the outside looking in. People who like it really, really like it. I wish I liked a VI as much as that. Even Modern D, which is still the best I've yet played, doesn't wow me as much as Pianoteq does its greatest fans.

+1, so well said ππ»
I just stumbled upon a friend of mines YouTube channel where heβs playing around with the Modern D. Heβs a brilliant jazz pianist and I think it sounds lovely.

johanibraaten he is a great player! And I love how he is experimenting with the sound.
HZPiano heβs a great player, and he made a wonderful preset! π
Just sharing my piano recording of Modern D. π
jenpal Sounds great, thanks for sharing! Is that the built-in reverb of the Modern D?
Thanks johanibraaten . π yes, thatβs the built-in reverb of Modern D and I turned on the 3 default mics.
It sounds exactly like it's you playing a grand piano in an otherwise empty cathedral. (And excellent playing, by the way).
I think the massive reverb works here, because the piece is fairly slow. If you were to record a faster piece, I would probably suggest dialing the reverb down somewhat to prevent unwanted dissonance.
jenpal beautifully played! And yes, very much like an empty cathedral. π
in the last few days I've seen videos about the modern d that made me wanna buy it (i wasn't so sure about it at first, sometimes it sounded fairly cold and edgy)
but now that I've discovered the warmer side of this instrument, plus everything else it offers, it's a must have for me, but I'm not gonna say that it's the last thing I'll buy or anything like that, i generally prefer the sound of bosendorfers and bechsteins (and sometimes even the CFXs by yamaha) to the steinways and if a vi company release one, i can't help itπ especially if vilabs do it (a bosey imperial (or a d282) with the sound quality of vsl imperial and the feature set of the modern d, man!!! that'll be fantastic, think about it you guys @VILabs π)
Thank you, QuasiUnaFantasia. Yes, I did turn up the reverb a bit high, which seems to work for this slow piece. π
Thanks, David Lai. π
I could no longer recall exactly the particular reverb I chose, but I think you are right it was the clear/empty big hall or cathedral. I also selected the S Curve 1 preset in the midi panel.
While Ivory III had their Rachmaninoff Prelude, VI Labs have their Etude Tableau.
Cheers and enjoy the big R in romantic Russian music,
David
Just saw this review video. I'll listen to this as I say goodbye to my day here. Good night!
The Modern D has been bringing me absolute joy everyday that I play it. I've had it for a month now and there is no desire to open anything else. When I do open something else just to compare, I almost immediately slip back into the comfort of the warm and resonate Modern D.
The VSL Bosendorfer Imperial occupies the position of holding singularly the longest number one spot. I played it consistently from its release date (May 2020) to the release date of the VSL F308 (Dec 2022). I then played around with the F308 and Ivory 3.
If I could only have one piano right now it would be the Modern D. Until something impressive comes out in the future, the Modern D is all I need.
God Bless,
David
