VSL Fazioli F308 - my struggle

Hi, earlier this summer I purchased the entire VSL Synchron piano bundle (9 instruments, Full version), and have learned to enjoy each of the pianos... almost. I'm struggling to enjoy the F308. The upper registries are wildly inconsistent in their velocities (e.g., C6 sounds really weak), and the overall tones sound thin. The irony is that it's recorded in the Synchron Stage A, but seems hollow for some reason. Anyone else experiencing this? I know this can be subjective. But meanwhile, I haven't had as much issue like this, with the other VSL pianos... even the Fazioli F212 is more enjoyable in my opinion, like it has fewer idiosyncrasies than the F308 to me. This isn't a thread about whether Fazioli is better or worse than other makers. I'm just wondering about VSL's particular software, for this particular piano (F308).

johanibraaten I've never tried the Garritan CFX but maybe I should just get it, if nothing else to participate in discussions about it as it seems to be immensely popular. It's just that it doesn't seem to provide any way to try it out before buying...

The lite version is not all that expensive, and I would say gives you 90% of the overall experience, so if you're curious to just try it out you might want to consider that.

But between the Garritan CFX and VSL CFX, I personally prefer the VSL so rarely play the Garritan. It is really good though, and I could totally understand why someone might prefer Garritan over VSL.

I've played a f308 once
it was simply one of the best pianos I've ever played, warm and bright, crisp and powerful
the action was the best I've ever came across (easiest to play)

i was shocked by the quality of the vsl's f308, in the most unpleasant way of course

btw I'm not gonna spend any more money on the synchron pianos until they would fix their resonators and una corda emulation. and even then I'd only buy stage b pianos
stage a is a little too bright and bodyless, the warmth isn't quite there, i think the hall's big enough to consume any type of woofyness and immediate warmth so that's why the pianos sound a bit thin in there

not convoluting but it's not for my taste, I'm over the moon with the 280vc at the moment

That's not a bad idea, I'lll think about it. Autumn is coming and when it does I like to have something new to feed my inner nerd, although I just got the new Bösendorfer from Pianoteq😊

jdg78 Ironically, what I consider to be the very best Synchron piano all-around - the CFX - is also one of the cheapest.

my all time favourite is their 280vc and it's one of the cheapest as well, i have bo interest in classical recordings, they all sound thin and roomy (to me) like the stage a pianos, i like more intimate sounding recordings such as my beloved 280vc

yep same here. fun fact: I bought the VSL 280VC primarily because, I was waiting for my acoustic 280VC to arrive. when I bought the VSL, i really enjoyed it. And when I received the acoustic, I felt it was very similar in its sound.

I don't think this would've been the case had the VSL 280VC been recorded at Stage A.

me neither, the recordings of fhe stage a are somewhat bodyless to me, there's a certain warmth in the attack of the pianos that i like and it makes me very comfortable when playing one, every pianist with the experience of playing an acoustic know what I'm talking about, the immediate attack is round and rich, but in synchron stage a pianos, it's all mids and highs, seems like the big scoring stage is consuming the low end power of the instrument, the best stage a piano is imperial imo, and even that one has this (low frequency energy being consumed) to a certain point
