How to promote the forum to the world?

Just a comment to illustrate the importance of increasing the number of PianoClack members: Johanibraaten also posted this question on PW and got a couple of very helpful replies, and none here… Without a larger base of members, it gets complicated to decide where to post, and we may end up posting twice, and that is twice the effort and twice the probability of giving up on one forum…

I agree, and in fact I am one of the ones "pushing" for such a shifting by posting new threads "aggressively", and responding as much as I can.

It received exactly zero answers. While this is not a problem for me, imagine some newcomers posting similar question(s) and receiving zero answers. What would those persons gonna think about this forum? That we don't like new members? That we think their questions are dumb and do not deserve answer? That we do not know the answer? In any case, they are gonna leave, IMHO.

Don't take me wrong: there's plenty of good discussion here, including on many other threads I started (e.g. learning piano as a kid, sightreading, memorization, musical journey) or that someone else did (sample your piano, half pedalling, NV5 ownwers club). So it's not that all the piano threads are zero-answers, far from it. It's just that I think we are still below the critical mass that we need to support the forum long term. For that goal, each one of us needs to:

make an effort to post more both in existing and in new threads (which many are already doing, but can be done more, IMHO)
reach out to other "experts" and cajole them to come here (which I see as fizzling too soon, and that's the problem, again IMHO)

It’s easy to imagine that it is only a matter of time before one or more hotshot forum gunslingers show up to try & test the limits of “banless”….. to be dealt with if and as it happens i suppose.

Maybe there can be a special holding room “ posting purgatory” - they are still here, not banned - where such people can post whatever they want, unaware that nobody else has routine access to see/read their venomous klacking except for other people also occupying this special thinktank.

PS. I know, Mac, this special place its called “ where is the ignore button?” 🙂

Delvento. I think what happened in your $1000 thread was a consequence of the small community that we are: everybody knows you, the instruments you have and had, the posts you write, and assumed that there was little to add to what was already said in the $500 thread (in fact most of the suggestions in the under 500 range belonged in the 1000 range). So, I would not be worried about a newcomer getting the same type of feedback...

I agree. I'm not at all worried.

The membership is small right now. But it already gets posts faster than Piano Street. And someone here said it seems to be getting more than the digital forum on Piano World.

A Brit might suggest : STAY CALM AND PLAY THE PIANO. 🙂

That's exactly my point. To grow we need to grow the community of experts and the content.

And so the content did not get created. Moreover, there was a lot to be added, unless the market as changed dramatically. Isn't there something like and ES100 anymore? Another P45 or similar? None of them got mentioned.

Sure, I can google and find that info on my own and judge myself, so I don't strictly need that discussion (but I'd have been nice to get it), but the forum needs it to attract other people.

Speaking only for myself and contributions to your $500 thread, i wrote somewhat tongue in cheek but did end with a (one) serious suggestion BECAUSE its been my experience reading & contributing to PW-DP forum many months that it is a forgone conclusion that there is no 500 or under market, presently, to speak of.

As to “growing PC”, i remember well CG’s stated reasons for initiating this new forum, for which he has since somewhat tacitly indicated he’s okay with seeing where it goes, but IMO, out of respect for CG firstly, and everybody else here secondly, it probably should be by his outward acknowledging that he’s on board with growing this place well beyond what he initially envisioned before anyone else goes there.

RE Piano Street, the only reason i ever went there (about 7 years ago) was to read the archived posts of one Bernhard for whom i eventually discovered at that time he had not actively contributed for years prior.

I counter to the extent that from what i’ve learned about PW from reading their the past 6 years, as it is today, PW archives did not occur by a relative few people quickly dumping into it the kind of content you (and others ) prefer but instead happened naturally over time in the process of knowledgeable members ( also relative 😉) one by one helping to meet the demands of other members posting inquiries.

I lurk PS from time to time, to read what is being discussed in the repertoire subforum. Usually, posters know what they are talking about, and they create interesting discussions.

I guess like-minded to some extent… As we saw recently (OK, everything is recent here!), when politics, religion, gender and such is talked, like-minded is not exactly what we are 😬. Yes, we share piano playing passion, each one to more or less extent and level, so we are effectively like-minded on that. Also the anti-ban (a la PW) feeling is strong among current members at least. But out of that, we are very heterogeneous, which IMHO is great. I hope we can keep the good thrust going!

Piano World is "Piano World" (two words) not "PianoWorld" (one word), so when I search for "piano forum", Piano World Forum is one of the things that immediately pop up. In fact, that's probably how I found it in the first place.

I would suggest you rebrand and change all instances of PianoClack Forum to "Piano Clack Forum"... as someone already pointed out, no one will ever search for "PianoClack". 🙂

Rebranding would be difficult already. I thought search engines take care of that. I can add “clack” as a keyword in the SEO though, it should do the trick.

If I search "piano clack" I get "Did you mean: piano black?"
Then a Piano Black video ... whatever that is.
Then a list of nearby piano stores.
Then a wiki link to Rex Lewis-Clack.
Then a link to "Casio PX-870 BK Privia Digital Home Piano, Black"
Then a link to Story & Clark.

But if I search pianoclack the first result is a link here ... followed by some piano black stuff.

I updated the SEO keywords and added just “clack” as the second keyword after piano. Not sure if that would work and how quickly the search engines would take it.
