I can partly understand what Khuja is saying. But I still think it doesn't do justice to the Schimmel brand.
Schimmel is not as prestigious as Bechstein, Steinway or Blüthner, nor is it an insider tip like August Förster or Pfeiffer. But they have been making very solid pianos for many decades, which have proven themselves in many living rooms, schools and piano teachers. And the small 112/114 pianos in particular have a very good reputation among piano technicians and musicians, because not all piano manufacturers manage to build such good compact pianos (see Steinway). Schimmel is a bit like Yamaha or Kawai from Germany. And that's totally okay with me. Very solid instruments without any frills.
I've really played a lot of instruments of all brands and in all price ranges, and I liked this specific Schimmel really much! It just fits in all aspects: tone, touch, aesthetics, size, price, piano technician and purchase circumstances.
Last but not least, this rental is above all an opportunity for me to see what it feels like to have an acoustic piano at home without any great risk. If I feel like buying another piano, a larger Bechstein/Grotrian-Steinweg/Yamaha/etc. within the year, I can just exchange it for the transportation costs. And if I like the Schimmel and want to keep it - all the better.
