Moving my N1X to Oregon

Finally after several months (4) we're moving into a new home in Oregon. I met the movers yesterday at my home in California and told them there is only one thing I care about in this house and that's my N1X. 😀

I decided to move the top portion myself rather than let them haul the entire assembly on the truck and have it jostled around. I put this unit together and I don't think it has the structural integrity to sustain a move assembled like that without the high probability of some damage. The only conundrum I had was how to protect the headphone/volume unit underneath once I removed the top portion from the bottom. The top portion will not lay flat with the headphone/ volume unit attached. I thought about removing it for the move. Here are a few pics of the process. (You also have to remove the headphone hanger and two guide pins.)

However, as I started to unplug the wires I noticed that the board is very delicate and I was afraid that if I damaged it I might not get it replaced anytime soon. It's already been 4 months since I played my N1X and I'd hate to be without it indefinitely due to parts shortage. The second option was to suspend the top portion to keep the headphone/volume unit off the floor. That's the way it comes shipped. It's actually easier to do that. Here are the pics.

It's good to go and should be in the new home early next week.

I was going to suggest that but I see you have reached the same conclusion. FWIW, the way I designed the cabinet of my DIY hybrid is very similar. In fact, I included some pieces of wood (like the ones you are using to keep your instrument "up" the floor of your vehicle) as part of the structural design of the area, so should I ever move it, I won't have to scramble to find something appropriate and worry that the movements during transport may dislodge that.

Did you manage to sell your California property (and to any level of satisfaction)?

It is lovely to see how much you care for your piano. After the move and installation, it must feel like you're playing a new piano all over again, with a homecoming feeling at the same time.

HZPiano Did you manage to sell your California property (and to any level of satisfaction)?

Not yet. We are borrowing some money from a friend with the expectation of paying it back once our house sells. If it wasn't for this generous individual we'd be stuck living in a small garage/studio apartment until our house sold. We've been living out of suitcases for the last 4 months. It will be good to finally unpack now.

Oregon is an an interesting place. It's governed by wicked Democrats that are trying to push their satanic ideas. However, with the exception of the Portland area (Bend is also getting bad with people from CA moving there), the communities are fairly conservative. I live in Prineville. When Antifa tried to protest here in 2020, they were met by an armed community that would not let them in. 😀 This is my kind of place.

Just and update. My N1X is still in two pieces until I get the attached garage fixed up (mini split heating unit) in our new place. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks the garage will be ready to serve as my music, office, and exercise room.

David B I discovered it two years ago and I couldn’t breathe for 15 minutes laughing too hard. YouTube offered it again today and I cracked at that point when the explosion goes, there are a few seconds of silence and then an intensive fall of heavy pieces of meat can be heard 🤣 The comments are also funny.

I've seen large building demolitions go farther wrong that that ... some with serious injuries. At least the only whale victim was an Oldsmobile.

But I have to wonder why doofuses are put in charge of demolitions. Did they really think that the whale bits would simply disappear?

MacMacMac I gave it a lot of thought and in fact blowing up a dead whale might still be the easiest solution despite it sounding absurd and turning out no less ridiculous in reality as can be seen in that reportage. But think about it, leaving it there might lead to serious biohazard and I also read that a dead whale can cumulate a dangerous amount of methane and self-explode. Then, cutting it up is not an easy task… So, well, let’s just blow it up 🤣

I remember the day the movers came to load-up in California and they saw a container of paint thinner and said we don't move any flammable or dangerous material. I thought, "I better not tell them about the several pounds of gun powder in unmarked boxes that they already put on the truck." 😀
