Scriabin - Romance for horn and piano

From the YouTube description:

I play Romance for horn and piano by Scriabin, IAS 74. It's been composed between 1894 and 1897 for the famous french horn player Louis Savart. The manuscript has been hastily scribbled with a pencil and was only published after Scriabin's death.

For the horn part I use a synthesizer, the U-He Diva software plugin that I control through an ASM Hydrasynth keyboard. The patch programming is mine and includes filter and wave-shape modulation through aftertouch, mod and pitch wheels.

Piano: Garritan CFX controlled by a Yamaha AvantGrand N1X.

Recorded in Logic Pro X where a slight reverb is added.

Very lovely. I'm going to download the video from YouTube (MacX video converter) and extract the audio for my iTunes library. 😀 Then I can listen to it in my car or over the church PA, etc. I'm a fan of this style. Thanks for sharing.

If someone is interested in the piano part only (for e.g. playing along with another instrument, even whistling @Joh ), let me know. It's rhythmically challenging though since the piano plays triplets whereas the solo instrument is in either regular eights or triplet eights.

You can download the score from here. The horn part is in F, meaning you have to transpose down a fifth. There's also the same part translated for cello in some weird C-clef.

No nits to pick, other than surprise at a Scriabin piece that actually sounds like music! 🙂

navindra Thanks, glad you liked it! And yes, I know you (and many others, for that matter) don't really like Scriabin 😀

Earlier today I began wondering if I maybe overdid the timbre contrast and added too much buzzing in the fortissimo passages but well, nobody yet commented, so... 😉

Apart from it being great, and really novel, I think the synth was a bit too loud compared to the piano, and it did't seem as if the two instruments were in the same acoustic space (maybe difference in reverb?)

QuasiUnaFantasia I agree and I always have the same feeling about these recording of piano and synth I make... something is not quite right with the sound balance but I just can't fix it in any way, even though I try 🧐 This sound engineering stuff is a whole new universe for me... If I lower the volume of the synth track even a little it starts sounding quiet 😀 I guess it's a matter of also reverb, stereo field, compression and who knows what. It's very interesting to me though, just another new hobby for a lifetime 😀

I didn't mind the mix this time because the horn was the first and last thing I heard in the foreground, with the piano painting in the background.
