My comments are adhering to the OP - title and opening salvo - and the notions therein.
kawafanboi I've begun to succumb to the notion that pianism is no more worthwhile an intellectual pursuit than chess or go, both of which is well understood today as bastions of AI,
Speaking only for myself, i never started piano lessons as an intellectual pursuit. I did it in an effort to develop a time-tested way of providing an outlet for expression for things going on inside my person.
Thinking back to when i first heard and or saw ( in the late 80’s) the expression “AI”, it eventually occurred to me the notion is simply a misnomer held by many, one that has always been, by default, that so-called AI will manifest as human-created computer gadgetry someday progressing to the point that a subsequent version will, of its own volition, be able to takeover control from & of it’s human parents and proceed with dominating the world …. always portended to be for nefarious purposes in the disguise of “for the greater good”.
Modern era (the post medieval era ) drivers of popular culture - namely theater and it’s eventual offspring Hollywood and continuum of works intended for mass consumption by way of screens and stages big and small - seem to have always been enamored with/of the idea of world domination since the earliest days of animation - think Disney Bros black & white feature films, then Underdog TV series cartoon- and progressing through various versions on celluloid of Frankenstein …. to Star Trek to Space Odyssey and the like.
“…. as you know I am a liberal*
*Liberal by the 1960s meaning, not the 1990s and especially not the 2020s. I am anti-war, anti-chamber of commerce, anti-authority, anti-establishment, anti-Wall Street, anti-banks, and anti-CIA, which used to make me liberal. Now both parties are pro all those things.“
That is a recent quote from a person who’s works ive been reading for some 15 years now. It fits in with my opinion here on the global state of bleak.
Chess the board game was mastered by computers decades ago and some day soon possibly by the hundred-monkeys effect. If the same artificial tech has or will some day master the true arts - such as piano - it will likely be the result of some subliminal content instructing us to love artificial music the way successive newer generations of humans been conditioned to like & prefer as “beautiful” other forms of new stuff, be it tech or modern art versus the original, old styles. Chess the real life game is as old as recorded history and continues to be a favorite past time of rulers from present day global politicians and going all the way back through progressively older versions - kings, queens, presidents, ministers, kaisers, czars, caesars and all their laundry list of appointed soldiers / dukes/knights/bishops/pawns et al - and to believe a slice of genetic mass, the veritable blob with attached probes & other tentacles, may some day take over and rule the world of intelligence ….. is bleak.
