Motivated in part by LarryS in his thread For Vangelis, i have the desire, as a project, to figure out how to record A/V of myself playing on my DP a brief intro of a well known classic rock song, then post the file in a proper format onto/into a separate thread here.
I realize i may be asking too much - of any ‘Clack members who might maybe kinda possibly on a slow day maybe want to try suggesting help - in the way of help/tips required to pull this off. Consider that a disclaimer of sorts in that on the one hand, i understand i may be too incompetent, but on the other hand, i still want to try if not only to end up proving the former. If this ultimately blows up in my face, console yourself in knowing i hereby invite any and all to beat me up in the process, to give me the flaming or beating any of you think or feel i deserve from having earned it during 8-plus month’s as self-appointed COO. 😔 ( read that emoticon as me the humble drew-r)
Tools & resources on hand: * an iPadPro Gen3, ios14.7.1, bought new late last year, plus an older 6th Gen iPad, ios 15.3.1; an iPhone6s, ios11.2.6 and a third , 13 year old ipad thst may be useful for something; 3 DPs to include 1 Yami with USB midi & audio support and 1 each Roland & Kawai with USB midi only; my self.
* the new iPadPro has a functioning Garageband app. , no wired outlets, but with a Hyperdrive hub that turns 1 thunderbolt port into a headphone jack, plus a standard USB port, plus a USB4 port, a micro memory slot, and a power / charger jack to keep the Pro constantly charged. The older 6th Gen ipad has built-in headphone jack plus a CameraConnectorKit that can probably be used on the iphone6 as/if needed.
Given the types of hassles that come with updating ios, for now i intend to use the ipads and iphone6 as-is as far as ios version. For example, the 6th gen ipad had a functioning version of Garageband prior to installing ios 15.3 late last year. This project is probably complicated for me enough as is without adding more wildcards that will come with updating either pad or phone.
I have already been practicing the intro piece ( 30 to 60 seconds or so) and for the most part that is settled. I could record just the audio, internally on the Yami as either midi or audio format, then figure out how to export so as to copy/paste into a ‘Clack thread; or i could record just the audio via either pad or phone and then figure out how to export to ‘Clack; or i could, ideally, record both a/v via ipad or iphone and export to ‘Clack.
I remember a long PW thread on CLP7xx in which @CyberGene expressed joy/surprise that those models have USB support in which “ you just hook up to an iphone and it/recording works!”. I also remember he later said Apple fixed that simplicity of usage in a later new model of phone or ios version IE. “It no longer works as easily as i once saw”, to paraphrase what i remember he said.
So, first question: give it or try or bury the idea?
Any and all comments, suggestions, flames/beatings accepted …. for a limited time.
