This post/reply of mine is mostly from a view of curiosity that has been recently amplified by the return of @mmatthew and his testimony re: things virtual and/or virtually social … and possibly cloudy real or no.
As simply a technical convenience, i can understand a person using “clouds” as a means for virtually housing some/any of their ( the person’s) data/information. @MacMacMac is a great example (from one end of this spectrum) of one person having limited trust with a given virtual entity/cloud as a seemingly / relatively safe space/lock box in which to place a fairly limited/one type of not-so-private information. I say this while also having virtually learned enough to know that MacMacMac has the technical chops to understand the pros & cons of whatever things cloud he chooses to do. At the other end of the spectrum are folks who 1) may not have technical chops but 2) nonetheless have placed their (too much?) trust in things virtual, if for no other reason than because 3) they see/sense so many other apparently-like-minded Linked/Space/Face/Twit/AoL’ized people out there doing the same thing …..”how could so many socially-like-minded people be wrong about clouds cleverly cloaked in wolves’ clothing?”; i think i understand most of that.
For my own mostly specific reasons - some chops based - Ive never been drawn to social networks ever since a 1-2 day trial experience with “AoL Rooms” back in the late 90’s. As a result, ive never willingly * used any cloud service, neither while i was still by necessity an MS-workstation junkie or upon eventually migrating from that towards increasingly becoming strung-out on Apple’s methodology in the wares of commercially available retail computing smack.🥴🧟♂️
*but each time i buy a new iPad( 3 times and running, so far) i learn more about how increasingly difficult it is for me to figure out how undo as much as possible the automatic cloud hooks that Apple Corp enables ( in some instances, seemingly welds, might i add ?) as their preferred “ default, out-of-the-box-new-best-foot-forward quality”
DOotBNBFF - an expression we often times talk about / debate here in context of various brands of Digital Piano.🙂
PS @mmatthew - welcome back! @Pete14 may not know that you were among the chorus in Oct 21’ pining for Oh Where Oh Where Has Our Dear Pete Gone? ….. and you were not here to share the Christmas joy when he arrived🥲
