QuasiUnaFantasia Per a post from CraiginNZ on PW, VSL has launched another upright, this time an old Bechstein. https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Synchron_Pianos_Bundle/German_Upright_1904 EDIT: What are the odds? Vagfilm posted the same news about 5 seconds after I did. Insane timing. ๐
vagfilm QuasiUnaFantasia No... YOU posted before and so I deleted mine. Were you able to see my post? Lightning fast eyes... And another heads up: you can download the pianos now, and activate later, and the 30 days will start at that moment. That is much better than having 30 days to check all of them at once: it gives you more than half-year of free playing.
David B I really like the demo option. I'm currently downloading the new upright. I'll have 30 days to play around with it and determine if I want to buy it. Super cool option. God Bless, David
QuasiUnaFantasia vagfilm I wanted to reply to yours, but you had deleted it, before I could get around to it. ๐
David B You guys are self-moderating. You've stolen my thunder. ๐ I was hoping I'd have a chanced to do some moderating task. God Bless, David
Pete14 โYet a brand new piano.โ โYou now get half-a-year of free playing.โ Do you see a pattern here? I wonder if the next announcement will be โweโre cutting our prices in half.โ If they do, cut their prices in half, please let me know!
Drew-r Pete14 Being in a not-wanting-to-self-moderate mood, and thereby potentially providing @David B a reason to execute some power of his office, i intuit from brother Peteโs observations that the Ministry of Good & Plenty has effectively announced an increase by some %50 in the peoplesโs monthly quota of chocolate rations from 56g to 28; double good for users of VSL chocolate! ๐ค
CraigNZ Ha! I googled "VSL Bechstein" to see what others thought of this and ended up here. I'm liking this VI. Very warm and woody. For better or worse, it's much more resonant than the Bosie upright. I think the only other piano VI I've played that almost feels like it's vibrating or I have my head against the soundboard is the Pianoteq Bluthner when I whack up the resonance slider. Not saying this'll suit everyone, but it's nice to have such a different sort of instrument coming from VSL.
CyberGene CraigNZ I googled "VSL Bechstein" to see what others thought of this and ended up here. Thatโs interesting, Google is already quick at indexing our forum, means enough people click on search results to PC ๐๐ป
HZPiano Simeon Amburgey featuring the '1904': https://youtu.be/LOGm_gEoe-A Cheers and happy watching/listening, HZ
EB5AGV Simeon could play a toy piano and make it sound wonderful ๐ He is a very talented player ๐๐ผ
QuasiUnaFantasia On a related note, is the free "Soft Imperial" useful for anything, or is it mostly a gimmick? Anyone with practical experience with this (ressource light) model?
HZPiano QuasiUnaFantasia , From a serious piano playing perspective, it's a gimmick. Cheers and happy proper instruments, HZ
nicknameTaken When do those Pianos become playable like PianoTeq? It still feels like listening somebody play, when playing them rather than feeling actually playing.
QuasiUnaFantasia nicknameTaken Isn't that primarily a consequence of the microphone placement? In recordings the microphones are never placed where the pianist sits, and the same tends to apply with sampled instruments (although there clearly are exceptions).
CyberGene nicknameTaken When do those Pianos become playable like PianoTeq? It still feels like listening somebody play, when playing them rather than feeling actually playing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me Pianoteq always sounds like coming from the other room through a pipe (more or less, itโs getting better indeed).
QuasiUnaFantasia CyberGene This is completely baffling to me; although it is clearly possible to make Pianoteq sound that way through messing around with delay, reverb, and equalization, is surely does not do this out of the box for me. Instead the sound (when turning off delay) is extremely close. Not just a little bit close, it is frighteningly close. On the other hand, this also makes me dislike the tone of Pianoteq somewhat (although much can be done with reverb and equalization).
HZPiano CyberGene , I am not particularly a Pianoteq fan, but still I concur with QuasiUnaFantasia . Without delay, reverb and such it really does sound close. Cheers and happy personal tastes, HZ
nicknameTaken QuasiUnaFantasia My ears are currently adjusted to a Roland FP-30. I haven't had anything better 'stock' yet. It would take me a time to adapt to accept a new reality, if that makes sense.
