David B Why does music have to be defined by what you perceive it to be?
Because everything stated on a forum is opinion, without explicitly marking each post as such. (I think people, who grew up with Wikipedia got the wrong idea, that anything expressed on a public facing platform needs to meet some NPOV*) criteria, while it doesn't.)
What seems to get people somewhat angry, is that I think that a recital competition is about comparing who is delivering the most "accurate" Chopin piece. They are all obviously aiming at getting to this "perfect recital". In this setting there is no room for "individual Chopin", experimental interpretations or "mistakes", especially not if you want to win.
And this is why "mistakes" are not happening. While for me hearing the individual musician and their own ideas is what making music is about. That includes your own ideas on how to play and improve on what someone else wrote. And we know if you go to far with improvements, you become a heretic in the scene of classical music.
