It's official, I'm moving.

I've accepted a call to pastor a church in Oregon (I currently live in California) and we'll be putting our house on the market ASAP. I'm scheduled to start at the new church August 1st. We'll be leaving a beautiful house on amazing property that we've lived in for 12 years. It's the only house that my children remember.

It's been a tough decision because I've worked as a full-time pastor in my current position for over 22 years. I've served in three different church districts during that time. However, a number of reasons (providential indicators) have prompted me to reasonably consider this move to a new State and church district. I feel a bit stressed at having to sell my house and find a new place to live. Hopefully, this process can happen in the next couple months.

At some point I've got to pack-up my N1X to get ready to move, but I'll keep my P125 unboxed until I'm actually in the new location. I don't expect my participation on this forum (the only forum I currently participate in) will be disrupted. Although, that is really dependent upon how soon we sell our house and find a new place to stay. I'll keep Gene updated on the process.

Just thought I'd let the clackites know. You guys know how forums work. They become more than just a "forum." They become a community of virtual friends. 😀

I know. I can't believe it either. We got really spoiled after living here for the last 12 years. It's hard to imagine we'll find anything comparable to this where we are going. 😢

It is really laudable and for sure a sign of your faith. We as humans tend to like stability and staying on such a beautiful home for all these years will need strong beliefs to move on.

The church I will be serving at is in Prineville, OR. It's a small but growing community. Facebook and Apple have invested billions in data processing centers there. Amazon and Google are there also. When I went to visit the area it was hard to find an available hotel in the middle of the week because all the contractors who are working in the community stay in the hotels during the week.

Prineville is considered high desert at 2800 ft elevation, but it's also a few minutes away from the Ochoco National Forest and some other beautiful sights. Again, we've been spoiled living right at the doorstep of Yosemite National Park for so many years, but Oregon has beauty of its own.

The big problem is housing costs right now. They are out of control. We're praying we can find something out in the country, but everything we looked at on modest acreage is north of 1 million dollars. 😳 The Lord knows what we want, and we're content to be led to what we need. "All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

My mother lived for years in Oregon and took a lot of pictures of it; it's stunningly beautiful in many places. It's also a very large state (I think about 8 times the size of Denmark), with very different types of nature, depending on which corner you're in.

For the price (I paid $640 for it) and the amount of time I actually play it (maybe an hour or two a week) I'm happy with it. However, I would love to try the P515 or whatever its successor is. I doubt I could justify the increase in cost, but if I have to keep the N1X in storage for any protracted period of time, it might be worth upgrading the slab if it becomes my primary instrument.

Prices are going mad everywhere. I was looking for houses near the seaside (we have a Black Sea coast) in the last months. They ask €300-500k for a house with a small yard. Man that’s Bulgaria, a poor (the poorest in EU?) country, not Oregon… Crazy world. But there’s galloping inflation and my savings are also under pressure. I will finally just purchase a Yamaha CFX and tear a wall in my apartment to be able to put it and end that drama 🤣

The west coast is crazy expensive. Have you considered eastern or midwestern locations?

If you like living away from the city and away from the suburbs, perhaps the mountains of western North Carolina?
That's where I had planned to retire ... until my wife pushed me to Pittsburgh.

Yes, that's the issue. We'll make a little money on the sale of our house (a nice down payment for something new), but the something new is so much less than what we're used to via cost per sq foot that it's hard to make the choice to buy. However, leaving our modest property gain income in the bank to be ravaged by inflation is not a good choice either.

Like I said, this has been a tough decision on a number of fronts, but the decision has been made and we are now walking by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
