My mother purchased the “1492” on a cassette while I was a kid and our entire family used to listen a lot to it, we all liked it and enjoyed it very much.
Later on when I was a first year student at the Sofia University, I got acquainted with a fellow student from my own hometown in Bulgaria (Stara Zagora) and he had some links to a huge factory for optical disc controllers in our hometown, and that factory also happened to be the biggest manufacturer of both legal and pirated releases of software and music CD-s. I believe as part of our joining the EU later that entire illegal operation was dismantled. Anyway, in 1997 we were at our worst recession after a total bankruptcy of the then government, so were poor as church mice (as we say in Bulgaria) and we didn’t care about piracy and so that fellow student brought me a catalog of countless music records to choose from and I ordered like 10 of them, at a price of like $0.5 each and among them was the Blade Runner. I’m not sure why I chose it, there was no way to listen to those, I blindly ordered it but it was the CD I liked most from those years. Very fond memories, Vangelis is a genius! Although to be perfectly frank, some of his compositions are way too melancholic for my taste.
