First, a vent qualifier: a preamble along the way to the Supreme Court weighing in(sic) to what many people today remember as the weighty matter of how the so-called free world arrived at what once were “ the 7 dirty words illegal to say in public” , Carlin advised the plaintiff ( a mainstream/political plant dutifully masquerading as a Fundamentalist “moral majority” minister) to avail himself to the simple tools - knobs for on/off, channel selector and volume - if he/minister found his/Carlin’s speech so offensive ...... but no, preacher had to go running to the appropriate politicians and their media outlets and their gang of 9 be-knighted in black robes to whine and moan enough to stir the State into action; settling what children on the playground often figure out how to fairly resolve sans adult intervention.
Since joining PW, i’ve noticed a somewhat frequent air of angst voiced whenever a newb comes along and asks a seemingly sincere question relative to topic s in an old, dormant thread.
Meanwhile, most recently, an advocate for the necessity of strong/swift moderation & punishment of members going off-topic opined that this will protect against newcomers to PW being dissuaded or otherwise scared away from PW because they may have been searching for specific DP info but only found OT banter ..... however, a few months ago - July-September’ish - a newcomer made the mistake of resurrecting a dormant thread to sincerely ask a question relative to that, and the first reply was from the aforementioned advocate who literally effectively greeted this newb with “ do you REALIZE you are asking about a thread that’s been DEAD for a few years .... how/why are you so stupid !?” ..... and it seems that newb has since been scared away from PW.
What’s up with that resurrected thread stuff guff?
If dormant threads being reopened by a newb reminds old timers that they already had enough of that old thread, why are they not content to avail them selves to the simple tools available to practically everyone who seemingly finds these matters so irksome “offensive”
?
PS - how appropriate ive been wondering how to intentionally strike-thru select text but now the entire last half of my vent PLUS my PS has accidentally/unintentionally been struck-thru 🤔
PSS - be careful using text such as left bracket, text, right bracket to add a plural suffix to the singular
