Reverb suggestions

Any recommendations for a decent reverb that won't break the bank? Want to use it with CFX, Ravenscroft, PTeq etc. Shouldn't be too CPU hungry or add much latency in the audio chain. Would run it on my macbook air with Reaper as the host. Also convolution vs algorithmic, which is better for piano?

There are a few free reverb VST plug-ins that might do the job. The list below includes convolution and algorithmic reverbs. If you are looking for realistic reverbs, then a convolution/impulse-based solution might be the simpler option since it often provide good results out-of-the-box without extra configuration. Algorithmic reverbs are more flexible and by no means inferior, but might be more complex to setup if you are not using a good pre-configuration.

For commercial products, you can consider consider Spaces II (convolution, ~₃₀₀ USD). or Pro-R (algorithmic, ~₂₀₀ USD). Both have trial versions.

arc Many thanks. I'll have a look at the free stuff first. Unfortunately currency conversion between South African Rands and US dollars is not particularly favorable.

Valhalla room is cheaper and is ok. It's difficult to create subtle reverbs, but it greatly improves the demo of pianoteq.

Fleer

I’d suggest EastWest Spaces 2 for convolution and FabFilter Pro-R for algorithmic. The later has a very clear GUI to boot and the former shines in its instrument specific presets.
