Thanks, vagfilm! Unfortunately, that solution, which many people "found useful", starts with a click of the "Start" menu button, which I cannot get to any longer as my machine won't boot that far. Right now, it is sitting with the black screen with blue Windows icon displayed, with the legend "Diagnosing your PC" and the little train of white dots going in a perpetual circle, indicating the the computer is doing something. I'm not optimistic about that.
David, thanks for the suggestion about Apple. I've heard many others say similar. Can you provide a brief description of just how modern and how powerful a Mac computer I'd need to run Garritan CFX? And, I suppose, Pianoteq as well? It seems there are thousands of iterations of Mac computers, and I'm mind-boggled by the choices.
I'm also mistrustful of Apple as I think they punished me for not upgrading my phone OS on THEIR demand. For almost a year now, I've been unable to use my Apple phone between 11pm and 7am as Apple invoked the Parental Control function against me, creating a password without telling me what they were doing, and thereby limiting my use of my own phone. NO ONE has or has had access to my phone or the phone's password I am the only one who has that password, unless, through spying, Apple has attained it. And, I've spent about 16 hours across 5 telephone sessions with their "experts" and engineers with no one being able (or willing) to solve it. So, I am mistrustful of Apple. But, if I can get a second hand Mac computer and keep it off the internet, that might work for me.
