I'm sure they are not where they onced used to be, their current product portfolio is a complete mess etc., but when I tried my cousin's Forte, I liked the piano samples much more than anything I've ever tried or owned in hardware.

I owned Dexibell S7 - sounds were good (still, worse than Korg Grandstage SGX2 I replaced it with), the action was terrible. I think with their market position and being quite a new brand, those digitals are waaay overpriced.

That’s good to hear, and who knows, maybe they are getting their act together, after all…..

I’m still a little baffled by the fact that Hyundai owns Kurzweil, but Hyundai is a huge company, and if they wanted to bring Kurzweil back to the forefront, they most certainly could, but still, I would not buy Kurzweil if it isn’t purple! 😉

HZPiano Pricing is similar to the A-brands, so value for money isn't favorable either.

It costs around the same as Kawai CA701 here. And with lower-tier, for the price of their cheapest P60 one could buy Roland FP10, Yamaha P225, Kawai ES60 (or maybe even ES120).

For me it looks like someone stolen an old drawer from my grandma's house and pushed some cheap plastic digital inside. My thoughts about Kiyola are quite similar. My no.1 'slab' digital judged only by the looks is VPC1.

Regarding Stu's enigmatic info about Roland - I wish the refocus was meaning they're back to using samples instead of that dreaded modelling. FP90X successor with improved (lighter?) PHA60 and sample-based sound engine, but unchanged looks (so my fiance wouldn't notice I upgraded) - I would buy it immediately. Well, one can only dream.

I wouldn’t mind bigger speakers in the FP-90X “successor,” and I believe that with some ingenuity they could fit these into the current cabinet (if anything, make it an inch, or so, deeper).

As for the mic input, I think they should get rid of it; because this piano isn’t for singer/songwriters, but rather for pianists looking for a cheaper alternative to “cabinet-type” pianos (CLP, LX, CA, etc..). If they remove this, it’ll allow them to reallocate the money (spent on a useless mic-in), and use that money for the slightly bigger speakers, so it all works out in the end (no need to further increase the price)…..

I don't think bigger speakers in FP90X would give any benefit other than raising max volume (which is already plenty). The way they are mounted (and slab format requires that) limit their ability to be as detailed as one would wish. Also, in my opinion they sound not-so-bad when decent piano VI is used (I find both Garritan CFX classic perspective and VILabs Modern D, while not my favorite pianos timbre-wise, to sound good through almost anything).

Mic-in is something I might actually use ocassionally (for now I used it twice in FP-E50) and it will probably stay (FP80 had it, FP7 and FP7F also, If I remember correctly). I did a small part of wedding intro with just a singer and no need for audio interface, laptop and external PA in that use-case was very, very convenient.

Perhaps, but it could also give us a deeper bass, and improved overall quality (detail) whence playing at lower volume.

I remember the CP-300 being a great board that generated some interesting vibrations coming from those massive speakers (for a slab), but you’re probably right in that this will most likely not happen (bigger speakers for FP-90X)…

As for that pesky mic-in, okay, I’ll let you keep it! 😁

If you ever want to buy FP90, let me know - because that pesky mic-in (its gain potentiometer, to be more precise), was the only thing damaged in the used unit I've got 😃
