If you’re hoping for a grand or upright action MIDI controller, unfortunately, that won’t happen anytime soon. My recommendation is to buy a hybrid piano instead. However, instead of focusing solely on which hybrid has the „best“ action and features, consider which one offers proper MIDI functionality, good reliability, and an affordable price. While the Novus models with grand piano action may have slightly superior action compared to Yamaha and use real dampers, this is more of a laboratory advantage that comes at a significant price. In my opinion, any grand piano action, even a baby one like the N1X, is far superior to any digital piano action. That’s where the real leap is, not between different hybrid models. In my opinion, what matters is whether a hybrid is reliable, well-engineered, and can produce good MIDI response. Investing in soundboards, speakers, piano engines, and other components is a waste of money, especially for those who are interested in using virtual pianos. I’m biased, but I believe the Yamaha N1X or NU1XA is the better instrument. It’s more reliable, proven, and more affordable. I’m also biased against Kawai. After using their products for a long time, I realized I had rationalized my love for them. In fact, I disliked some aspects of their pianos that seemed to never change and were a reflection of their engineers’ belief that they knew better than their piano masters.
P.S. After rereading the first version of the above paragraph, I realized it was a bit too long-winded and awkward, which is usually the case even when I write in my native Bulgarian, but even more so in English, where I never feel completely at ease. That’s why I used the new AI feature on my iPhone to refine it, and I think it’s not bad. It effectively conveys my intended message in a more polished manner. 😀
