David B I’m on a top spec M1 Max Pro with 64gb of ram and since the new update I’m getting clicks and pops far more now too. I am using an algorithmic reverb (cinematic rooms pro) which doesn’t help either. Adding Pianoteq resonances makes it even worse:

Before the update I would only get these issues when playing big repeated chords with lots of pedal. But now it’s happening without playing overly complex music. Maybe the tweaks Vi labs made are creating an increased work load for the CPU?

Interesting. I wonder if you were to remove some host automation mappings on the user interface, will it lessen the CPU load? It's working fine on my PC over here at 96 buffer size and 3 microphones, playing heavy arpeggios and chords, solid as ever.

✅ Steps to Fix Library Tags Problem in UVI:
1. Install UVI Portal Properly:
• Make sure UVI Portal is fully installed and up to date.
• Log in using your Free account (no paid products needed for tag updates).
2. Download the Library Tags Update:
• In UVI Portal, go to the “Soundbanks” or “My Products” section.
• Look for an item like “Tags Update” or “Library Tags Update.”

I'm on a Mac mini M2 Pro with 32GB or ram. I never got any crackles and clicks before using all three mic profiles. Obviously it won't matter when recording, but it makes live playing - which is pretty much all I do - not enjoyable. I could increase the buffer size but I really don't want to do that either. I wonder if it's the Modern D samples or the UVI update to 4.01. I was using version 3 something before.

Oh, I forgot about that setting. It was on the default after the update, set to medium 5400 RPM, 40 MB cache. 😀

This has improved the situation. However, even though the CPU is not woking hard I still get an occasional click at my usual 64 buffer. Bumping it up to 96 seems to be the sweet spot. No more crackles. Maybe the new resonance update is causing the system to not run as smooth at the lower buffer.

@OlivierW I'm surprised you can run the buffer at 1024. At 1024 my delay says 21.3 ms and I can really hear it. I've got a 2 ms delay at 96 and I really can't tell the difference compared to 64 (1.3 ms) where I was at before the update. Thanks for the help.

As I understand it, this 1.1 update is actually more of a beta rollout, with a more finished version being released somewhere in the Fall. ("[…] the official release will come later this Fall most likely.")

So if you guys and gals run into any problems like the decreased performance or anything else, do tell @VILabs directly, they need to know. Now's the chance that they can still work on any of your findings.

If I understand correctly, in the first release of Modern D VI Labs disabled a feature that they were afraid was too heavy on processing demands. In this beta release, they switched that on, which may explain why some of you now have crackles and pops issues. ("We also enabled the extra Sympathetic Resonance with pedal down playing like we have in our Ravenscroft 275 and Modern U libraries.")

As it seems, several things still need to be ironed out/optimized.

That's a good point. My preset had the sympathetic polyphony at 30 (max is 40) and the regular polyphony at Max.

Selecting the correct cache and drive type while Increasing the buffer slightly seems to have calmed things down. I'm happy with 96. I can even go a bit higher if I needed to and probably not notice any delay.

No pops or clicks on my Mac Mini M2 Pro (16 GB RAM) with the v1.1 update — even at 192 kHz with my wonderful ZEN Quadro audio interface, polyphony set to full, and a decent buffer size giving around 4–5 ms latency. Everything runs perfectly with the latest Mac ARM updates for UVI Workstation and Falcon.

pc-king don’t rename the new file, rename the old one. You can still keep the old UFS on a separate location.

David Lai Yes, I've come to that conclusion too, but I'm just now noticing that the message still comes up every now and then. It's no big deal.

I found something here www.acousticsamples.net/faq : "You should be able to avoid the message if you use the Files browser in UVI Workstation, instead of the Library browser. "

I didn't find the section mentioned by OlivierW.

pc-king I always use the Files browser to load my libraries now, as if I chose the Libraries browser, I had more keys to press.

Is bigger better? Or should I leave it at 40?

Edit: NVDA reports it's a "slider," but I can't drag it. Using some technique, I was able to increase the cache size to 115 MB. But that's it, no more than that.
