Hi everyone,
This is David. Hope you're doing well.
Last year when the Ivory III ACD first came out, a kind-hearted forum member, whom shall remain anonymous, was generous to gift me a copy. This is the second time they've done this, which meant I was able to play with the library first-hand. My main complaint about it was the noisy hiss on the microphone positions, particularly side B. When 3 out of 4 mic positions had hiss, this was unacceptable to me, so I emailed Synthogy about it.
Their initial replies were very disappointing, deflecting the problem to the concert hall / recording session, ETC. I thought they may not fix the problem, so I uninstalled the library out of frustration. But things got a turnaround days ago.
I received an email from the Synthogy team, telling me that they have fixed to the best of their abilities the noise. However, side B still has lots of hiss on the right channel. Basically, they've tried lots of noise reduction and kept the signal without the artifaccts showing. So they had to do a compromise. In the end, although side B still has the most hiss among the mic positions, it's more usable than before, and the hiss levels have been reduced compared with the initial release.
If interested, I can post audio files of what the library now sounds like. Not all mics are clean, but I'm relieved that they took my feedback seriously in the end and did something about it.
Now I've had contact with both the teams at VI Labs and Synthogy, both having fantastic experiences, and they also listen to what I had to say. This is very promising customer service, and I'm very happy to continue using piano VSTs as practice tools.
Hope you have a great day!
