HZPiano How do these actions relate/distinguish to/from eachother?:
NW-GH;
NWX (as found in P515);
GT-S (as found in P525 and CLP745/845).
And perhaps, because it seems to bite the dust now in @EssBrace's judgement,
TP400/W in the Numa.
I'm curious, so thanks for any insights 🙂.
NW-GH is the same as NWX (as in P515 and CLP645 etc) but without escapement notch. That's my understanding.
The P525 has 'GrandTouch-S', which is different again - and lighter.
Comparing Numa's TP400W action with CP: The CP88's action is heavier from a static position. Once its initial inertia is overcome (long a characteristic of the Yamaha GE/GHE/GH3/NW actions) it has almost an over-centre feel that makes the rest of the keys' downward travel seem fast and agile and without a sense of excessive push back.
The Numa doesn't have that sense of static inertia and the key's travel feels more consistent until you hit the escapement notch, which can be felt when playing very softly. These things I am describing as differences are a very personal impression of course. Before having the CP88 again I would have said that the Numa's action is better. I would also have said the Roland PHA-50 action is better. But reacquainting myself with the CP makes me feel they are all equals, but different.
The Numa X Piano GT's keys have the best surfaces of all of them - the ivory feel is the best executed. Yamaha's is very subtle and doesn't have a visible grain as such, it's just somewhat matte finished. The Yamaha has the fastest action in my opinion and it has a muscular, indestructible kind of vibe.
