based on other ni pianos
it probably has 20-25 layers
the pedal up/down aren't different sample sets, there are resonance samples for the pedal down (sustain resonance)
and the harmonic pedal up resonances as well,
i don't know if there's a una corda but the forth pedal is simulated and you can adjust the intensity (that's more then enough imo for a 150$ plugin)

for me, the main selling point of this instrument is how incredible and beautiful it sounds, rounded and colourful, nicely dynamic and a lot more, tbh I'm more tempted to get this instead of the modern d...

or i can give my wallet a pretty middle finger and buy both💀
and a second middle finger for my wallet when vsl releases their new beasty

Rabih's video is more illuminating than the NI demos (as usual).

Initial impressions are that this library sounds quite nice. The bass in particular is massive.

I'm also hearing some of that simplistic sound some folks associate with the brand. The resonances sound very pure, and there's an almost CP-80-ish vibe to the higher registers, which is interesting.

None of this is really anything I'm looking for, but it's pleasant to listen to.

Can you try it and see?

Hit a chord in the lower register, press the sustain pedal and release the chord, then release the sustain pedal entirely and press it again quickly before the resonating strings have been fully damped enabling them to continue to resonate.

Noire cannot do this. The Grandeur can do it once or twice and then it cuts off after that.

pianow Synthogy Ivory and Eastwest Colossus had the earliest vi Fazioli F308 in 2005, 2006, then in 2010, Imperfect Samples Ebony F308; in 2012, Truekeys Italian F308; in 2016, Wavesfactory Mercury F212; in 2017, Waves Grand Rhapsody F212; in 2019, UVI Keysuite Acoustic Pianos F278, and recently Audiobrewer Pianoforte F212 in 2021; VSL F308 in 2022, Ezkeys Session Grand F212 in 2023; VSL F212 in 2024; NI Claire F308 in 2024. There are many others I lost count. LOL.

Also, in 2023, IK Pianoverse Gran Concerto F278. There are so many Fazioli piano vis. Kawai, Petrof, Steingraeber, Mason & Hamlin, Grotrian, Baldwin, Schimmel, Blüthner vis are not so many. There is indeed a recent 1930s Baldwin vi from Soundiron Grand El Campnil. The former one is UVI powered Wholesound 1954 Baldwin Parlor Grand in 2017.

Pity. Out of curiosity, I ended up re-downloading my NI piano bundle (Noire, Grandeur, Alicia's Keys, Gentleman, Maverick, Giant).

Pretty much all of them are atrocious in their so-called "re-pedaling."

I subsequently loaded VI Modern D and Pianoteq, and their re-pedaling is massively better.

So yeah. Unless I gain confirmation and evidence that the Claire indeed has a REAL re-pedaling, and not merely a function that says "re-pedaling" then I'm sitting this one out for now 🙂

In a VI-control piano poll, I found Noire and NI piano family together with Keyscape have more popularity than Pianoteq, VSL, Garritan and VILabs.

Pianoclack could also have a huge piano list for poll.

Perhaps, though it’s strange that most of the NI pianos have the repedal function in their settings.

If it has repedal in the setting, but it doesn’t actually repedal, then that’s problematic, either it’s an error, bug and/or false, misleading.

Thus, the notion that NI instruments are more catered towards producers, etc., doesn’t address the concern that’s being raised here.

I think this is right. Personally, I don't put NI Kontakt pianos in the same category as "serious" piano emulators like VI Labs, VSL, Ivory 3, Garritan, etc, and I wouldn't use them for advanced classical repertoire or anything like that. They don't always mimic piano behaviors in a realistic way.

However, they generally sound great, are quite easy-going, play nicely, and possess a certain "fun factor" that isn't always the case with some of the more high-end stand alone programs.

For that reason alone, I keep Noire, Maverick, Vintage D and Gentleman around, and enjoy pulling them up every once in a while when I just want to play casually, or am going after a certain mood or sound.

HeartKeys Some products advertised to support certain functions, and yes, indeed, they have that, but only basic and slim implementation e.g. "half-pedal". Many products have this but people feel so different. Some only respond to a few nodes and certain pedal parameters. Some respond to a range. PTQ can respond continously and linearly.

There is re-pedal button in Noire, but that enables what I would refer to as catch-pedaling.

Catch-pedaling = Play a chord, release the chord and quickly press the sustain pedal to catch the resonances.

Maybe I've got my nomenclature incorrect, but I consider re-pedaling and catch-pedaling as two different functions.

Again, just for clarification:

I might have the terms reversed because Noire developers consider what I'm calling catch-pedaling as re-pedaling. However, I've heard other developers refer to re-pedaling the same way I'm defining it. 🤷‍♂️

I would be interested in trying Claire if it has what I consider re-pedaling.

in a week😄 i bought it this morning (2hours ago)
and because I'm in middle east it'll take a few days for them to receive my payment

but sure I'll let y'all know if it has a true re pedal action or not (my money is on "it doesn't")
