hello there guys
i wanted to know what do you guys and gals think about the vi labs ravenscroft 275, modern u and the new modern d (a three way comparison)
what are the differences, which is your favourite and why, which one isn't and why, what features do you want them to include with their updates and such....

fun fact: the ravenscroft is 2014 product, it's ten years old already.

pianow Here are my thoughts on the products:

Modern D, their latest, greatest and biggest. Certainly, also, the piano used for sampling is one of the best, but it's certainly best in presentation.
2. Modern U -- an upright with a grand sound, similar to Modern D, was nicely sampled and done very well. I have it in my collection.
3. Ravenscroft 275, 10-year-old classic. The piano has a great low end, but I have trouble controlling it to play in the middle dynamics. So phrasing might be a bit difficult.
4. TrueKeys, didn't own them, so can only say from a listener's view. All of them have minor issues, mainly on how the pianos wre prepared and sampled. The American Grand has tuning issues, for example. Wouldn't recommend buying. Also, this is their earliest product, and have the least velocity layers (according to what I read online).

Modern U! My piano! 😋 😋 🥰
Modern D - for its quality of execution which is obviously above the Ravenscroft. Sincere doubts, though, whether the sound and character are for me. I'm not so much into acoustic Steinways either, is why. No priority to buy a license.
Ravenscroft 275. I do own a license, I find it very interesting and hardly ever play it. If someone could show/share a really good setup, in particular in a traditional, mellower Jazz context (the acoustic Ravenscroft 275 was built to specifications/wishes given by a Jazz pianist) I'd be very happy and may even start actually using my Ravenscroft VSTi piano. Also: same as David Lai in his point 3. Love the low registers, have difficulty getting mid and higher nice.
True Keys pianos/bundle: as David Lai says in his point 4. I do own the bundle license.

the modern D/U are equally good and worthy and honestly that's how i feel about them as well

they kinda remind me of the native instruments 3 old Pianos (grandeur, gentleman, maverick)
we have the steinway and the upright, so i would like to have a cbechstein bext😍 or a bosendorfer🔥

Modern D was a surprise to me, and not just because of the sudden announcement. Ever since the Ravenscroft, I'd had it in the back of my mind that they might eventually try something like a Shigeru Kawai, since they seem to like taking the less conventional path. When Modern U came out, I was even more sure that the next grand they sampled would be something uncommon. Also, they'd already done a Steinway D with True Keys, and an American one at that, so I never thought they'd do another one.

I'm certainly not disappointed. It's just not at all what I expected.

That's cool, although, I wish he would have used the Player mics on the Modern D since those seem to be the preferred mics to get the "Steinway sound."

David B I agree. Speaking of mics, though, I go between player plus close, side plus close, or close plus room… I like all of these. Sometimes I add a touch of hammer… The mics are all very useful.
