I just read through Yamaha’s official list of improvements: “diffusing technology.”
BTW, ‘diffusion’ is fancy-talk for spreading, so yes, they’re bragging about spreading; however, not a single mention of any improvements to the action, VRM, GEP, etc.., but they did remove the transducers, and I wonder why? Oh wait, I know……to save money! and I’d advise you save your hard-earned money, and take a second look at the 785 (now discounted); because, IMHO, Yamaha has gone into cost-savings mode, and the 885 is the lesser instrument for it.
Oh, I almost forgot, the amps are weaker!
Now, about the opinion that the action on the 785 wasn’t improved, and now has been improved for the 885, this is no more than perception; in the same way many claimed the 785’s action was improved, and others found nothing wrong with the original GrandTurd action (in the 685) to begin with….
Here, Tony claims that the GT action in the 785 is “improved,” but of course, he offers no proof of this, so it’s simply his perception; in the same way the two amigos (Chloe & Adam) swear that the 785 wasn’t improved, yet the 885 has been improved, and I ask to all of them, where’s the hard evidence? because, if Yamaha doesn’t say anything about “improving,” and I don’t see at least one screw that is at least a different color from the original GranTurd action, I will continue to insist that these are simply perceptions, that, by the way, could change on any given day; in the same way I find an action clunky today, yet perfectly fine tomorrow; because it turns out that I, and not the action, was clunky on the first try, yet on the second, I was perfectly fine; hence, effing perceptions:
