I was wondering if this forum could do something to prevent the digressions taking over a main conversation. See the p-515 club as an example, with the Linux digression.
It is normal to start going on side conversation, but in my opinion the original thread is ruined, especially when it is a large thread with a large number of long digressions as it always happened to PW.
The easiest thing which could be done to avoid this problem is for the posters to start a new conversation when a different topic arises (as I have done with Memorization which came out of the Sightreading discussion). But that is tedious, so I was wondering if there is an app for that. I mean add-on, plugin or whatever they are called. It would need to:
- allow to compose the new conversation (with new title and tags) while being in the old thread and seeing those messages (workaround: use two windows which I did, but very tedious -- almost to the point of being impossible on phone/tablets)
- allow to quote stuff from the old conversation into the new. This can be done with copy paste in the two windows mentioned above, but you must edit the @-mention manually otherwise there are bad effects, so even more tedious than the first
- probably most important and impossible at the moment: automatically subscribe all the subscribers to the original conversation into the new. The poster of the digression wants to engage with the same group, so the plugin should automatically do that (obviously each one can unsubscribe if they are uninterested)
While the problem I am trying to solve is irrelevant in the short term, I think this would make the forum much better in the long term.
