Killomiter This update to the CA99/79 is a joke. It adds a number of "new" user-defined Virtual Technician parameters to the UI. All of these parameters have been available for over a decade, at least since the CA95. But they were removed in the CA99/79. So, it took Kawai 18 months to revise the UI and expose functionality that was already implemented in the system software.

This is the repeat of the CA98/78 story. Kawai delivered a deficient GUI and then addressed zero of the UI issues before discontinuing these models. Worse, several of the UI issues in the CA98/78/NV10 continue to exist in the CA99/79/NV10S. And, again, none of the UI issues were yet corrected in the current models. Kawai produces excellent DPs but either they do not really care about listening to customer's feedback and improve their products accordingly, or just have a truly incompetent software development team.

arc I have only ever owned Yamaha before purchasing my CA79. I have no history with any other Kawai product. But all one can say is that if it proves useless then simply roll back to it's predecessor?

Is anything already known about the not quite dark tuned display? For many in the PW forum, this was a big annoyance. (I wasn't bothered by the not quite dark display on the NV5(S)).

That is a great, great pity. I am not a SW expert, but I could imagine that this is not so difficult to implement. Since this issue was a major point of criticism for many Kawai users, it would have been an easy catch for Kawai.

From what I read (I mean, told by someone else 😊), the upgrade did not address any of the major flaws that users were expecting, and worsened the touch panel responsiveness!

I went and read the last page in that thread (should I ban myself?!) and it seems like people are really getting mad at Kawai 😲

In all fairness, CA99 users report that the update improved the buzzing caused by the soundboard transducers, and they are quite happy the non-GUI aspects of the new firmware.

On the other hand, maybe this is the moment in which Kawai James jumps ship and abandons PW and its ungrateful members 😊

Certainly not, PW is a very good stage for Kawai and also a very good feedback platform. And James could have already resigned many times with regard to everything that has already been said in PW concerning Kawai. I don't know James, but I can't believe that he is completely selfless in the forum.

I have had comms with James on just a few occasions PM and also read the comms to others and I would say that he is polite but robotic logic is not really diplomacy or that reassuring.

I posted the heads up for CA owners here to be aware that there is a update available, Currently I have downloaded the files but not installed yet as I have been up country since. Not sure of the relevance to this for other players, but thanks for all responses either way. I have plenty of views on Ferraris but only ever owned a 911.
